ok, i have been looking around alot and still to no avail, can i find a complete yes or no answer as to if i can swap the cluster from my 96 5speed manual tranny sunfire, to a 96 or newer 5 speed tranny cavalier. i want to swap because i'm wanting to put blue LED's behind my cluster but the sunfire's have that ugly orange/redish film overlay that looks like turd, and the cavaliers are just white (or so i am lead to believe.) so, can i swap clusters with little or no mods? thank you in adavance.
i forgot to say that all i want to replace is the plastic overlay plate. not the entire cluster, just the gauge plate. i am aware that i could custom oder one from black cat custom but those are like $119 canadian, and i really don't want to pay that. thanks in advance for the help!

here. To answer the plate part, no. The sunfire & cavalier use two different designs - most notably, you'll find that the cav z24 has the temp & fuel on the same side of the cluster, and the sunfire gt has them on two different sides.

The RS versions have the same layout as the Z24 too, as evident by the pic of my dash. I'm also pretty sure the clusters themselves are shaped a bit differently, so even swapping the entire unit would require either a custom bezel or an entire dash swap. I've always preferred the Sunfire cluster myself but I never swapped for that very reason.
i tried this back in the day and the clusters are different shapes. plus, i believe the wiring is different on the pre 00 clusters meaning that they wouldnt even plug into each other. so no you cant do that.

The harness can be rewired so the cluster can be installed, it's jsut that the clsuter itself doesn't fit unless you swap the 'Fire dash or like I said, possibly modify the stock dash. And I'm not even 100% sure if that'd work. Most people jsut swap the whole dash.
damnit. thanks for the info guys. i like the fire dash alot more then the cavy dash, but i hate the sunfire overlay and i like te cavy one. guess u can't have the best of both worlds.... guess i'm going to have to custom order something later on from black cat customs.
Ok. i've made up my mind, and i want to swap my sunfire cluster, to a cavalier cluster. things that i know i need to mod:
1: Wiring harness
2: Customize dash pad to fit over cluster properly
3: Replace 194 bulbs with 194 LED replacement bulbs.
Now all i need is a guide or anything. does anyone know of any sites that give some help or walk me through swapping clusters while showing how to mod the dash to accept the cluster. Also does anyone have any pictures of a dash they have done by swapping a cavy cluster in their sunfire so i can see how it looks, just t compare to my mental image of what i want. Thanks in advance.
