ok i want to know how to put neon under my dash or at least led light or something that lights up when i start the car or inert the key whatever and turns off when the domelgihts turns off automatically or the power goes away from the socket
i bought this led lights from autozone .. in know i know it sucks but they are supposed to be conected to the cigarrte socket 12v
i have tried with the socket in the passenger side and leave the light on but it enver turns off even after waiting 20 minutes when you leave you lights on the system turns them off automatically after 20 minues right
i havent tried with the other socket in the driverside but maybe is gonna happen the same thing
so how do i do that
Ok...
First off, decide what you want them to do... do you want to have them on a switch so you can flip them on whenever? Only on when the dome light is on (ie: door open)? On only when the key is in run
From there, it will give a little insight on how to wire them as each setup is just a tad bit different.
Based on what you have posted, you want them to be on when the dome light is on (mainly when the door is open), is that the right trail?
which method is easier im dont know nothing about wiring cable or whatever it is, i would prefer to go with the only when the key is in run that woudl be better
so what do i need to do could you please tell me step by step what to do or maybe post some pics please im a complete knoob about this thats why i got those led lights that r connected to the cigarrete socket lol i knwo it sucks and is cheap and they didnt even worked liek i wanted
I'll have to get you a step-by-step tomorrow, its getting close to my bedtime
You may wanna consider hooking it up to your headlight switch so that everytime you turn your lights on the glow inside comes on. Thats how I've always wired leds/neons in my car, that way I had them on a switch and they were only on when I could actually see them.
Just a thought.
the easiest way to do any light is on there own switch its
simply light to swtich to fuse to power source. to run it the
same as the dome you have a few options
1. Splice it into the wire that runs to the dome light
2. Run it off of the same source as the dome light,
this is harder because you have to follow the
wire back to find out what controls it but its more
professional. by source i mean the unit that turns
it on based upon one of multiple switches being
activatated (ie.door ajar, interior light switch, key
in ignition)
Id say do fighter style toggle like im doing in my camaro because you have full control over the lights and it adds a custom look to the interior. Also if you hook light to the dome light what are you really gonna get out of them the dome light is so bright it'll over power them, especially if you do leds. The toggle is easy to run also so you said you dont know what your doing really thats a way to do what you want and get familiar with lighting and build confidence. Pretty much you just figure out where you want the switch and what you want go to pepboys and they sell everything you need, you can even ask the guy there to tell you what you need because I garuntee someone there has done cutom lighting in their car. then go home and install it the only way possible.
1. mark where your swtich is going, the measure out your wire, next make holes for the lightng to be mounted now rrn the wire back to the location of the switch, now measure how much wire to the fuse box and then attach the switch to both pieces of wire and mount it securely, now plug the wire to the fuse box and put a fuse in. Finally test them.
( with the fuse box you can piggy back onto an existing fuse but that may not work well or run to a new location with a sepaate fuse but idk your car really b/c i have an 89 camaro, you may need to run a new wire to a power soure from that fuse. and if your fuse box is full you can get an indepent fuse outlet from pepboys when you get everything else)
sp kardain can you do the step by step u were talking about i wanna turn the led or neon under my dash to light u when i turn my headlights on
liek blindemonz said
blinddemonz can you try to make a step by step guide if kardain cant do it, since u have already done the led under u dash i think i need u help
you may want to consider just selling the car you moron
I spliced into the positive wire for my ash tray light, and ran a wire to a pushbutton switch that I installed in my power window switch housing. From there, I ran it to the positive leads for the led's under my dash, under the seats, and in my subwoofer enclosure. After that I grounded the negative leads directly to my sheetmetal. the steel dash supports work just fine. Now if I leave the switch on, the led's come on with the headlights/parking lights, and I can turn them off also. This should work if you are running led's. Neon may however draw more voltage, and be dim, or not work at all. Then you will have to go for the headlight switch.

Sadly enough, quoted for truth.
There's a vast amount of resources here that even a simple search could find. There are detailed instructions included with the neons and plenty of additional information in this forum on wiring them up. Much of the footwork has already been done for you, but we can't teach you to crawl as well...

I realy love the JBO!
I kinda feel bad for him! It's like a trainwreck, you want to look away, but you just can't!!
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N
Here is the step by step...
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Suitable wire cutters
Suitable wire strippers
Soldering iron
Solder
Electrical tape
Multimeter or test light
6-pack of your favorite beverage
Wire, preferably 2 colors, 16g minimum
1 4-pin relay and socket
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Remove the radio bezel. If you dont know how, stop here, go to the auto-parts store and get a repair manual.
2) Remove radio. If you dont know how, refer to the repair manual that you just purchased.
3) Using the instructions from this site:
http://www.classictruckshop.com/clubs/earlyburbs/projects/bosch/foglites.htm
You are going to need to do the following:
a) Using your multimeter and the wiring diagram section of your repair manual (or go to
http://www.the12volt.com for various wire colors), find a switched 12v source (if your car has a second lighter socket, the positive wire to that socket is switched refer to your repair manual as to how to access it).
b) The switched 12v will need to be spliced to pin 85 of the relay.
c) Find a constant 12v source. That gets spliced to pin 30 of the relay.
d) Find a ground. That goes to 86 of the relay (hint a bolt that attaches to something metal usually is a good ground
DISCLAIMER: DO NOT GROUND DIRECTLY TO YOUR STEREO
e) The last pin, 87, will be the power to your lights. Wire the power wires to pin 87.
f) Wire the ground wires from your lights to a suitable ground.
Enjoy
what colors you planning on orlando?
I've run into the same prob, i got a 15in blue neon light from advanced auto parts, i want to wire it to my lights in my car so when i turn them on the neons come on as well, it has a 12v cig adaptor, i know that i need to remove that. than find the hot which should be the mettal cap i remove with the screw driver, ground that to the frame, now this is the part i get confused with, i know i need to splice that cold into the light switch, but how do i complete the circet?
than i thought about just wiring the neon to a switch that i will hide under my dash, again i have a circet prob,
i dont know what to do with the cold wire, can someone help me?
Hot needs to go to the power (and the switch should be on that side) cold needs to go to ground.
Follow the instructions above, but run a fused wire from the parking light positive to the relay... put a switch on that wire... it will go to pin 85.
From a constant 12v source (battery or cig lighter) to pin 30
87 to the hot wire of the neon
86 to ground.
For the neon, any ground will work for the cold wire.
Did I mention that I like relays
If you don't kno nething bout electronics n wires, I would suggest to let sum1 else do it. But make sure they also know wat they are doing lol. I got mine done by a shop but they didnt do a good job seeing how I went for repairs twice...n now I have to go back becuz my front LED tube broke off at the end...1st time wen they got em done my LED's would only work if the driver side door was open, once you close the door it would cut off...2nd time the LED's went out for no reason so they had to fix that.
Either way, U dont it urself dont @!#$ nething up....let a shop do it but make sure its a good shop or they'll @!#$ it up n waste ur time!
no more cavy...now 240 =]
I see a cool-air intake
It's got a NOS-fogger system and a T-4 turbo
I see an A.I.C. controller
It has direct port nitrous injection
Yeah, a stand-alone fuel management system
...Not a bad way to spend $10,000

I have had neons wired up to both the dome light(in a different car), and through the wiper fuse(used an add a fuse thing), both worked, different result.
through the dome, I just connected it to the positive wire, and then grounded it, it worked ok, don't know if this how this will work in the j but it might be the same(then can use for when the door opens, or turn on with the switch.
,
hooked into the wiper fuse so it would only run when I had the ignition on, or in the acc position, not great if you want the lights on with the car off, but why would you anyway, you would likely want some tunes on too. and it saves you the hassle of having to turn them off if you forget. I also have it on a switch so I can have them off with the car on.
If they were hooked up to the dome, and you took the dome light out, would it still work,
and if so, would the neons/leds still turn off with the dome lights when you lock you car?
and if so, would they also turn them selves off, with the dome switch on like they do normally?(the 10 or 20 minute thing until they turn off so you don't drain the battery?,
just some things that I thought of
but the relay thing sounds like it would work really well too(should only be on if runnign lights are on right?)
