Err... wrong steering wheel adapter hub?
Tuesday, January 23, 2007 7:20 PM
So I picked up the APC adapter hub for my aftermarket steering wheel... and for my life, can't figure out what all the spare pieces are useful for. My biggest problem, however, is the metal "chunk" that is supposed to fit over the shaft and allow the the wheel to turn the shaft, well, doesn't. The sunfire has a toothed-type shaft, where-as the kit come an adapter that seems for a shaft that has is round, with two flat sides. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

(I could have also sworn there was a tutorial for this, search button didn't help me unfortunately.)

Unfortunately not of the assembly (hey, two hours in -15C weather just dicking around with this crap was enough for me), but I'll get pictures of the pieces. Just have to go collect them from the car!

In any case, I'll post a pic of which adapter kit *not* to get... Although I'm fairly positive I'm missing a piece in the kit I purchased (it was already opened, should have followed my instincts to leave it there...)

Here's some pics of the stuff:

So after just seeing pics of the Grant kit on Ebay, it's pretty clear that's the one I need. I'm curious, what to people do with the airbag hub thingy in the middle? Just toss it? I know I'll be sticking a resistor in the ABS circuit (to turn off that annoying dash light).

And I've gotta ask the car gods: Can at least a SINGLE company provide decent installation instructions?

Momo makes one let me look up the part number for ya. I plan on adding one later on down the road.

Ok I was wrong momo doesn't make one that I can find. If you run a search in google for momo quick disconnect it will come up with a few. The down side that I just noticed is taht it will push the wheel back 3 inches and or delete the horn button. I now will not be doing it due to pushing the wheel back even further and deleting the horn. Oh well there is your info on how to find one at least.

Grant is for their 5 bolt wheels, you have a 6 bolt.

=won't work

=you need to fork out the money for the Momo

i found an alternative that allows the use of a quick disconnect and doesnt move the steering wheel from its stock position and best of all it is a 6bolt and has the wires for your horn and with that said i will leave you all in suspense

Looks like you're wheel is a bit different but yeah the hub will bolt right up. Only problem i had was I could not get the horn to work. But I hear I am not alone. I will play around with it more in the spring. The hub looks great with the billet steering wheel spokes. I'm really glad I got it versus a plain black one.

You have to break apart that yellow airbag module thingy to get the right wire to use the horn, I forget the proper color.
