An LD9 fits just fine with the head and oil pan and just about everything else all on it. Only things I removed were both intake & exhaust manifolds, as well as the fuel rail. Fitting it in is difficult - we pointed the oil pan at the back seat and the intake side of the engine down, then just kinda dropped & pivoted it in. The oil filter proved to be a bit of a pain, but we ended up getting around it.
I picked up the engine on the eastern side of Pennsylvania, and drove it back to mid-SE Michigan. It stayed there for a couple of months actually, without
too many problems. There's a small hole from wear in my spare tire well and it bent the trunk latch, but that's it. Easily fixable.
