how easy would you all think this would be. ( i've never done anything like this btw, so keep that in mind ). i was thinking about modifing a dash from a 04 grand am i saw at the junkyard to fit my cavy. ( i believe it was an 04 grand am ) anywho, basically what i was going to do was tear the vinyl off and cut the pieces from the grand am dash out and mold them to my cavalier dash. the pieces from the grand am that i'll be using is the area around the gauge clusters and the cluster itself and the center vents. reason i'm not using the whole dash is i was going to try and keep the sides of my cavy dash so i wouldn't have to worry about modifying that area to fit with the door panels. after that i was wanting to wrap vinyl back around it to keep a stock look. not quite sure what i would use to mold them. i'm pretty sure they're plastic so i was thinking fusor.
the only other problem i will run into would be the odometer. cause not only am i thinking of swaping dashes, i saw a 2.2 ecotec from a malibu i was going to yank from the junkyard. i don't know how the mileage is stored in both the malibu and the grand am. i'll figure that out later if/when i get into that. right now i'm just curious about the dash.
sounds like alot more work than its worth. and especially swaping in an eco that would take a LOT of wiring and swaping of wiring harneses. will the grand am cluster even adapt to our wiring harnesses???
Your best bet it get the wiring diagrams from both vehicles and see what wires are the same, and which ones are different. With the computers and everything electric now-a-days, I would assume most are the same....but you never know. Also, check to make sure it would fit like Wojo said. If you want to post pics or diagrams here, or e-mail me: atroxaranea@hotmail.com I can do my best to help. Also, AIM: atroxaranea

Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.
you got mail sam.
i was gonna try to chop it, but my photoshop is on the fritz. maybe i can sketch my idea out on paper and scan it in.
yeah it'll be alot of work, i just want to try something different
its gonna look ridicious if you keep the sides the same
back from the dead. to answer wojo's ?, i saw online last nite that the grand am actually came with eco's, since i'll be doing an eco swap i don't see any problem with wiring up the cluster. i'm going to the junk yard tomorrow to pick up a few things and may get the dashes to start working on them. i talked to a guy in town who said he could probably do the wrap. if he can't then i'll just glass it. check back periodically for progress pics. it will take awhile because i won't have much time during the week to do it.
wrapping in vynle isn't that hard you just have to have patients and stretching tools to get it to look good.
stretching tools....they actually make tools for stretching vinyl? i was just gonna pull, stretch and glue with only my hands.
^ you can use a heat gun, heat up the vinyl and it becomes very flexible to work with. It helps alot when doing corners and curves.
