hi guys, im new in here as a registered user, but i have a few months surfing this forums, very good BTW.
So this is it, i made a fiberglass pillar gauge pod, is a full remplacement pillar, not a pillar cover, i think the pics talk by themselves.
I just finish it about an hour ago, so is not installed yet, tomorrow iīll take in-car pictures.
tell me what you guys think, thanks.

yeah, its a lot of pics
Expanding foam? Genious! Why didn't I think of that
Looks good, though I think I would have made the bods blend in a little more...
im not seeing a step by step process here.. was that tape you used, ? detail with pics would be good but it looks good...
hehehehe thanks, well, i didnīt want to describe each step
i was tired
the tape i use, is masking tape.
Just wondering.....
Because you just took the stock piece, and fiberglassed over top of it, doesn't that mean that your new piece is slightly larger than the stock piece? will it still fit as the stock piece does or not? I hope so, it looks like you did good work.
yeah, actualy is a few milimeters bigger in all directions, but it fits very well, because a few milimeters in every direction is not a big difference, i put a thin fiberglass layer on top of the original piece, and then when i took it off, i add more fiberglass layer but from behind, that way the piece gets reinforced.
at first i want to make a mold, and then produce the pillar covers from the mold, but i didnt
props on custom work but why spend all that time on something u can buy off a few websites for 40 bucks

personal pride?
yeah, well, the thing is that im not from united states, or near, im from chile, southamerica, so i dont have access to all that stuff you have, in here is only aftermarket for honda civicīs and stuff like that, just the most popular, is hard to find aftermarket for the cavy, so thats the reason
off course i would preffer to spend 40 bucks on buying it, but there is no such thing in here, and shipping from u.s to here, is way to much, the cost goes pretty higher.
so thats it
i like the factory appearance, real clean. Only question, how did you mount it? you wouldn't have the little tabs on the inside of you fiberglass one that clip right to the metal pillar. is it just glued in?
well, actualy is mounted with nothing, its hold just by another plastic piece on top of the A-pillar, is the plastic moldure, where the seatbelts are.
and i plan to mount it with those littles tabs , so i will have to took them off the original pillars, and make some fiberglass tabs in the fg pillar, and then put the metal clips, if not, i will use some screws
, anyway i still have to paint some little details in the fg pillar, so i have some time to figure that out.
i got some glowshift 7 color gauges for sale that would look great in there....
yeah i didnt want to fiberglass the pods into the stock pillar bc i dont like to mess up the factory pieces, maybe someday i would like to sell the car, or just took off the gauge pods, and put the origynal piece, so thats the reason. lol
thanks for posting men, i will put some other projects i have as soon as i finish them.
bye
how easy was it to sand the elastic foam?
I would be worried about cracking that thing glass.
"
boobs now with Riboflabin"
sanding the foam was very easy, is nota big deal, and the galss was reinforced on the back, with about 5 fiberglass layers.
but the foam is easy to sand, cut, or anything to get it molded.
here some pics, from the outside.
makes me want to do some more fiberglassing and see how many more gauges i can fit into my car. I'll have 7 this summer... hmmm...
What kinda of paint did ya use on that? Looks like it is textured or something.
Nice work on the pods. BTW, but that didn't look like an airbag steering wheel. Do the South American export cars not have airbags, or did you swap it out? Just curious.
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N
