Switch Placement?
Sunday, March 04, 2007 11:15 AM
i have a small switch panel (two switches) which requires two screws (1/4" long) to be drilled into somewhere in my car to mount it... any suggestions as to where i can mount this? i want it to be out of the way, but not difficult to get to... the switches are for my interior(1) and exterior(2) neons.
i was thinking, about the following places, but dont know if the wires could be easily hidden
1. center console and drill the wires towards the front of the car hiding them all under my change holder so i can swap the fuses if needed and then from there, run them under the console to the wiring panel.
2. glovebox. i dont know how i would hide the wires from the glovebox, but i guess i could pull the dash pad off and hang it on the top side of the glovebox and put the wires through the top and run them back to the wire panel...
3. drivers side of the console... i like this idea, but i dont want the panel of switches just chillin there in the middle of nowhere.
4. Please toss out suggestions. or where you have your switches at

If they are small rocker switches I would put them in the little tray you get when you install an after market head unit in your car. Thats where I put my nitrous switches, nobody can see them and they are out of sight but easily acessable. Sorry I dont have a digi to take pics, mine got broken when I was in a car accident and I never got it replaced.

im actually thinking about just building a box and keeping it under my drivers seat, i think that would be pretty sweet, out of sight from passengers, easily accessible and not easily damaged
any thoughts?

If you wanted them hidden, I would put them inside the center console. Only downfall would be you would have to open it to get at the switches. Depends on what you are using the switches for. Might bother you, might not. Other option is below the head unit, kinda under the dash where that fake cigarette tray thingy is.

my cav has no cig tray, unless its that little dip bowl like thing... lol never could find a good use for that, but idk if the switches would look just chillin there. also i have no aftermarket headunit so i have to pass on that thought. thanks

I had my switches in the center console for a long time; the biggest hassle I had was unplugging all the wiring when I needed to remove the console.

Now I have my switches in a panel on the lower dash. Much less hassle & fuss.

Shiba-I have an 01 and I noticed you have an 98. the hvac controls and the radios are switched on the dash between these years and when you install a 1 din headunit in a 2k+ j you get the little "pocket " I was talking about.
