steering wheel off a tooth?

the steering wheel on my 02' sunfire needs to be turned to the right in order to have the car moving straight (holding it facing straight up pulls the car to the left like mad)

the car has new suspension (everything except balljoints and theyre going in soon) and it has been aligned. the car doesnt pull any direction when the wheel is turned to the right and it is aligned that way.

so my question here is, can i take the wheel off and turn it a couple of degrees to the left so that it sits right when i drive?-- a better question is can i do this and not worry about the air bag blowing on me? lol -- is it easy enough to do that its worth it?

thanks for the help guys

its been done 2 times, and its been like that since i got the car, which i got with 23k miles on it

the last guy who did it suggested that if the car ever had rack and pinion work done to it that its off a tooth there or something, but i dinno...

theres no uneven wear on the tires and never has been, ive put 60000 miles on it so far.

The job is not that difficult to do at the wheel. I think Autozone has a how to o their website regarding airbag removal and reinstallation. You'd need a wheel puller, also available at Autozone. Follow all the instructions carefully, and you can do it safely. I've sapped steering wheels numerous times. PM me if you need assistance.

the first thing an alignment place does is center the wheel, and then get underneath the car.

Does the cavalier steering wheel have a centering tooth? Like you can only put it on one way anyways. It can't go on a tooth off. I am not sure but what they need to do is adjust your tie rods. that is why the wheel is off. Even if it drives straight the tie rods are off and that is why the wheel is cocked.

Jesus christ. If they dont road test your vehicle or at least cant tell it is uber f*cked up then you deff. need to take your car somewhere else..

Not to mention they make a spring loaded steering wheel lock that keeps the wheel straight when doing alignments..

Did you happen to get this alignment at wal-mart?

yea, who ever did your first two alignments took your money and ran.

As said above, there is no way to 'turn the wheel one tooth' since there is one tooth that is wider then the others......

Also, if the rack was off one tooth (which also cant happen) the wheel would be WAY off.......

Make sure you dont get ripped off again.

ALSO, make sure your wheels arnt worn funny....... the best alignment in the world cant fix @!#$ty tires.
