00+ gauge cluster odometer light barley visible during the day and not visible at all when lights are on. any one have this problem if so how did u fix this? any photos?
also i do have a spare gauge yet my car has 71,000 and with faces, and the rplacement has 20,000 dont really want to swap and deal with the mile. should be a easy fix yet dont have time to mess with it. any insight would be greatful thanks.
Your mileage is stored in the onboard computer, and not on the cluster. as soon as you plug the spare cluster in and turn the car on, the spare cluster will reflect the actual mileage. If you need a cavy cluster, I've got an extra one.

What ^he^ said...you can swap a Sunfire cluster in if you wanted and your milege would show up. I have an extra cluster that's doing the same thing as yours.
my cluster did that. then one day it just turned back on
I want to share something with you - the three sentences that will get you through life. Number one, 'cover for me', Number two, 'oh, good idea, boss', Number three, 'it was like that when I got here.'
Smack the crap outta the top of the dash right above the cluster.....see if it comes back on. You might have to go at it for a couple minutes....when I did my sunfire cluster swap I could BARELY see it during the day and couldn't see it at all at night....

those clusters short out easily. like said a quick smack on the dash could fix the problem. if not you have to replace the cluster and as stated the milage is stored in the bcm so no need to worry about the milage on the cluster
You can actually go in and resolder it. Its actually a connection in the cluster that breaks easily. I used to work at best buy and would get these all the time with the back light going out. It is easier to just replace but after you do a couple it only takes about 30 minutes to fix.
Yeah, I went from MPH to KPH and I can't see the odometer at all....I will have to try smacking the dash... Is the canadian cluster unable to pull the data from the BCM?...
..OR do I just have a bad cluster?
The "IKE SMACK" worked....later

this should be the new technical term for beating the crap out of the dash to get the odometer back on.

The "Ike Smack" hasn't worked for me... maybe I'm just not putting enough "pimp hand" into it... ah well...
The ike smack works for the backlights on the gauges but not on the odometer. for me
bone stock z- what about that cluster
the "smack" of some sort, worked for me, but on the lights behind my radio buttons, when I took my top dash off to paint the trim plate, after reinstallation, all the lights are really bright...makes me happy, even my HVAC knobs that I painted blue are glowing brighter.
the i hit my dash too
it always work after that
That smack should be part of the owner's manual. works for me almost every time.

I just ordered a 00+ sunfire cluster because of this. Im tired of beating the @!#$ out of my dash
