hello, I have a 1999 Sunfire and I was wondering if the piece directly in front of your knees comes off or is it part of the lower dash? Thanks.
u mean the piece asside of the steering wheel?
iven been wondering this to but seems u need to take the whole dash out
its the flat piece right underneath the steering wheel, im figuring you have to remove the entire dash, which really sucks by the way.
i know exactly what piece youre talking about, i was painting my interior last summer. this was the next piece on the list... heres what i found..
i took the dash pad off, radio bezel, glove box lid, cluster... pretty much everything i could find. then i located the bolts to the dash core and unscrewed them... after double checking i had them all i tried pulling it out. good news: i had everything... well almost bad news: you need to take the STEERING WHEEL OFF inorder to get the dash core out of the car.
seriously... unless i missed something (dont think i did because i looked all over cuz i just spend all the time getting up to this point and didnt want to have done that for nothing...) theres no way of getting the dash core out without taking off the steering wheel.
so im thinkg i'll leave it in the car sand alittle, then paint it... done may not be as perfect as the rest of the interior but im ok with that.
good luck, find something out, LET ME KNOW!! lol
You'll have to take off the steering wheel to get that out. It's part of the main dash. The sunfire and cav have differing dash designs, but this is one thing that they have in common.
