I have a 99 z24, car ran yesterday, I swapped a 00 dash today and it wont start. There are 3 plugs by the cluster, 1 is plugged into cluster, 1 plugs into the bezel for cig lighter and stuff, the other is for ? Theft lock light stays on after trying to start it, it runs for a few seconds then stops. Is it because of that one wire? And is the theft lock stopping me from starting? How can I fix it? Thanks for any help

other i think is for dimmer.....unless you're referring to the plugs that connect to the signal and wiper arms
my guess would be theft lockout of the radio. may need to have it reset. r u running a stock radio?
ok lets say the dash is all together. Now i take the dash pad off, and i look to the right of the cluster, there are 3 plug with a few wire coming out of each plug. 1 is rather large ( blue and white) that one gos into the cluster, 2 is a medium size it plugs in to the small wire harness that feeds the cig lighter, dimmer and foglights. the 3 rd one is small it has a( yellow, white and black wire going into it) I can't find were it has to go. would that be the reason for the car not starting?

hmmm....since my car is ripped apart right now ill look at my car when i get home from work and see if we can match them up.......happen to have a pic of the plug that you cant figure out?
its tripping your left lock because you unplugged the cluster. read the faqs on how to bypass the theft lock
See the 3 plug up and to the right of the steering colum , the middle one, what is that for and where dose it go?

the picture above is not mine, just to show the wires. I have an aftermarket deck in mne

That one goes to your gauge cluster. If its not plugged in, it will start, idle for about 1 second, then die.
the pre-pcm cars need the gauge cluster to work. And since you have a 99 with out a PCM you have to have your gauge cluster plugged in.
I think there are 2 plugs for the cluster. (can't be 100%. Last time I was under the mat messing with wires from the cluster (disabling DRLs) it was kinda dark.)
...
i'll check it out again

the smaller black one you are talking about correct?
The large white harness with the blue backing to it plugs into the back of the cluster.
the small black harness just below and to the bottom right of the large white harness plugs into the SIDE of the CLUSTER
there are two harnesses that needs to plug into the cluster.
With your cluster being unplugged the car will not run. you can start it, it will run for 2-3 seconds then just shut off. I had the same thing happen to myself.
also check this...another situation that happened to me as well. Did you pull out your fuse at all? without the fuse for the cluster, again the car will not run and shut down after a few seconds.
thank guys, it's all good now, it just did not look like it was going to plug in. thanks again
