a couple months ago i dyed my dash pad with vinyl dye. it looked great and all. well last night while i was installing my power windows, i managed to lean up in the dash a little too much and made a crack in the vinyl dye. this morning i wake up, go to work and feel the spot and notice it kind of bubbling.
so i started to peel back all of it that wanted to come off and have a pretty big opening now. well my friend at work notices this and when im not looking he take the vinyl dye i had setting in the floor and spray it over. he didnt clean it or anything just sprayed. worst part is he didnt like how it looked and tryed taking a paper towel and tryed wiping it off so i wouldnt find out.
so here i am looking at a vinyl dash pad, with little pieces of paper towel in the dye. anything i can do about this... ?
how do i remove the dye?
and whats the best best best way to prep the dash pad so that next time it doesnt just put a film over the vinyl... i heard to clean it with water and vinegar, then clean it with water and baking soda. last time i dyed it i used simple green... please help...
sorry wish i could help but u have some great friends lol good luck oh try alcohol
Well i had the same problem with mine the first tim i did it..The second time around i went and bought anew dash pad and then i took mr clean and scrubbed it with a emry cloth and rinsed and then just before i used a emry cloth and rubbing alcohol and then blew it off and sprayed..it stayed on there tuff it didnt even rip in my accident when the airbag went off..phil
i used vinyl dye on my dash as well... the first time i did it, it didnt turn out good at all. but luckily it peels right off! try taking a knife or screwdriver and workin a edge loose then peel it off. also try a scotch pad to rub it off.
as for prepping: i used rubbing alcohol to make sure it was real clean then sprayed it. eventually it layed pretty even. it eventually bubbled a little by the cluster. still need to redo that area. i plan on peeling a good area off and letting it sit in the sun a bit then spray it and see what happens. if it doesnt work out i think i'll just try to do a black/graphite color scheme lol.
good luck
I know i have no clue what he was thinking. i looked at him like wtf. one thing i can say is that he used the mc'd bags wisely for overspray.
lol
i just used soap and water for mine with a little final clean right b4 i sprayed it
get new friends : )
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
