CLUSTER LED SOCKETS

hey guys..if this has already been mentioned then please disregard this ..but..
I was trying to read up on changing the bulbs in a 95-99 cluster to LEDs and all the instructions i found said i had to do some tricks with the bulbs wires in the sockets..i was at work doing this and realized that the OLDER gm cluster sockets are complete plug and play compared to these..no wiring or sodering needed..just plug your 194 bulb in and twist it back into the cluster..it was SO much easier than it sounded in the write up..or maybe i was reading the wrong one....i just want to make sure everyone with a 95-99 cluster thats trying to change the gauge colors knows about these sockets..is this old news?

That style would have been nice to have. I know my 97 Cavy's sockets are the difficult kind. I've tried the last couple of times to avoid soldering, and just hold the wires in place with the snug fit of the socket next to the bulb -- but after a while they loosen and become intermittent.

with these sockets you dont need to do ANY of that...you just plug the led in just like you do your corner bulbs..and of course use alittle electric grease if you want to eliminate your problems ( if you have any) i suggest switching to this style of socket..ill post pics when i get home today..and try to get you a GM number..these were old sockets we have laying around from the 80s clusters

I recently learned that one of my perks at work is getting trade pricing on parts at the local GM dealer, so I would be very interested in the number.

I believe that must be for the 2k+. I never had to contend with any scraping.

no scraping, mine light up a nice emerald green. and, i just so happened to have a full set of those sockets laying around, and used them. they work wonders.

my LEDs come in today so im gonna make a how to tonight and post it thats why i havnt made any more posts here ..it seems like a few know about these and a few dont so it needs to be made obvious cus it makes this mod SOO much easier...if anyone could make me a decent write up on the 2k+ we could put the two together in a good "how to" unless there is already one made?

Any auto-parts store near you should carry these sockets you speak of, all of them near me do.

It's not just a GM thing. Go to Autozone.

Any idea what size the sockets are? I think I remember last time I checked the 194 cluster sockets at the local auto parts store they had two different sizes.

the sockets are 1/2" there are two different sizes dont get the 5/8" only the 1/2" will fit..you will find them in the light bulb section where the "sockets" are located..they are one socet per pack and cost around 3 bucks each here..they are black in color..and 194 light bulbs & led 's snap right in....ill have lots of pics posted up tonight...its very simple..i just want everyone know just how simple it really is so they dont go doing needless soldering

If you woulda read the post u woulda seen this was found out(i know tho, it is 16pages). i ended up buying all 5/8 ones from wrong info a fellow member told me so i was out of $10 but i got some 1/2 ones and it worked great..Page 10 http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=45&i=71585&t=68183#71585

So in actuality these are 5LEDs in one socket. And driving with them at night, They arent really really bright.. honestly i feel they are the perfect brightness(with the fade wheel all the way up) for night driving. I love them, i bought 6 of these 194 LEDs incase i messed up when i originally planned to solder.. well since i only had to plug in play with the new Sockets i have 2 194 LEDs left over, i was gonna put them in my turnsignals but im doing a swap next weekend so i figured i'd put them sumwhere else, so i put one in my glove box and one in my license plate, the license plate one looks badass in night driving, glove box is pretty cool too. So onto pics!

BTW my cam sucks at night so don't mind teh crappy brightness and what not.. the LEDs are actually a brighter in person, the pics do no justice.. these things are sweet.. i love em lmao.
Cluster Lit Up

Glove Box

License Plate

Also they are reversable.. last sunday i removed mine cuz i sold them to a buddy and we swapped em right out easily.
and for those curious, i do also have better pics now

manta z. what led's are you using for your cluster? cuz mine arent that bright compared to yours. i just have the 194 wide angle cone led's off superbrightleds.com. do you happen to have the directional 1'ns?

I NEED a 97-99 LD9 engine harness for an auto.PM if u hav info.!!
