problem cluster

quick question...........i unhooked my gauge cluster earlier tonight just to check it out so i could put some leds in and when i plugged it back in and turned on the key to make sure everything still lit up, my odometer didn't light up at all. i unplugged it again, with the key off, and plugged it back in and turned the key back on, still no odometer. any ideas on what could be wrong? oh, replacing the dash with a newer one. thats why the dash is off in case you are wondering. thanks in advance.

take a volt meter to the plug and make sure that there is current going through and that is polarity correct

those clusters are known for that. yes seriously smack the dash to see if it comes back on. it may come on and stay on for a bit but it will probably go back to being dim. the connection on those clusters suck
