'99 to '00+ Dash Piece Swap
Friday, February 23, 2007 10:22 AM
If someone already posted about this, I apologize. I searched and didn't come up with anything.

I have a '99 Z24, and I want to swap the dash piece (piece that goes around gauge cluster and radio) out for a '00+ Cav dash piece. Is it a direct swap or is there some modification required? Thanks.

sounds about right, cus i dont think all your holes would align correctly with the new bezel and old lower part

have to swap entire dash... 95-99 dashes are single din and 2000+ are double din

kinda bringing this back from the dead,

DrAKE you say the entire dash. Does that mean

1) Radio Cluster Bezel ( desired part )

2) bottom of dash ( inline with glove compartment )

3) Top of dash ( where windshield defogger anf passenger airbag cover are )

Or is it like Joey Baggs says

1) Radio Cluster Bezel ( desired part )
2) bottom of dash ( inline with glove compartment )

Also prolly a dumb question but dont wanna leave anything to chance, will the 99- clusters fit in the 00+ dash piece with no problems?

you will need picture 1 and 2. im almost positive picture 3 is the same from 95-05.

im also almost sure the 95-99 cluster will work fine with the 00-05 bezel.

the cluster isnt a direct swap, you need to mod the new dash to work with the mounting sections of it...

as for doing the 00-05 bezel, well.. you could use it on a 95-99 dash, the hvac would be fine down low as theres plenty of room (where the old radio would have been) but when you go to install your radio.. its not going to work, theres just not enough room back there where the hvac used to be.

to do it, you need the ENTIRE dash (lower sections below all the bezels and pads etc etc etc) and the metal bracing that goes in behind it... ive heard you can cut a section outta the 95-99 bracing and it works fine, but if you dont the radio will STILL not have any room to install.

ive been wanting to do this for a long time, i just have had zero luck in locating a 00+ dash UNCRACKED. ive got 2 mint uncracked 95-99's tho.

^^^im pretty sure the 95-99 bezel and the 00-05 bezel have different mounting points, so im not so sure u can use the newer bezel without the newer lower dash unless you mod the mount points.

then again its been a year or so since i looked at my old 95-99 dash pieces

I threw away my '97 dash and swapped in an '04

If doing so, get the metal brace underneath it all as it'll save some time. I didn't and had the remove a bar that interferred with the radio mounting. There was a support on the side though, and with no passenger airbag, structurally it did no harm.

Had to cut the plastic that came out for the '00 cluster mounting, and drill new holes further back once I gained the clearance to mount my 95-99 cluster.

Wasn't too bad, huge improvement for sure.
