I'm thinking about offering different interior parts painted, but was wondering if people would be interested. I would have set colors, but could also do custom colors for a little more. This would not be your cheap traditional spray can job. I'm really just curious as to if their is any interest in this, and also what types of things you guys are looking for. Feel free to ask or comment. thank you.
i thin if this were to work, you'd be best off to have parts already to paint the color of the persons choice. if you're refering to shipping parts to you to get painted, and you ship back, it would be worthless. by the time you pay shipping on something like door panels, etc, you could have taken it to a shop down the road for just as much to paint it
just my $0.02
I totally agree. Plus the nice thing about doing it that way, is if someone decides to sell there car, they can put it back to stock, and then just so the pieces if they liked.
or for certian smaller items like a gauge bezel, a-pillars, airbag covers, etc, you could always charge a core, so they would have to send you their stocker, and you send them one painted in return
I thought about that doing the core, but i know a lot of people don't like having to pay for a core, and also they don't like haveing to ship their stuff. That would depend on what kind of deals i can get on interior parts, and what kind of quantity, that way their isn't much delay if any. If need be a core would be added. Thanks for the posts so far, please keep the feedback coming. anyone else with ideas?
Good luck with this, but I doubt you will get much business. Most people who want their interior painted cheap do it themselves with rattlecans. Most other people who want a quality paintjob either do it themselves or have it done locally. In order for this to work, you need to be able to beat the prices of a local shop, including the cost of shipping.
Wide Body Progress
I would be interested personally but I wouldn't want a stock color I am going with a silver outside and "gunmetal" theme inside the car. I already have the backseat with a fiberglass box painted the gunmetal color from a stock civic and I will be doing the rest of the interior along the way so yes I would be interested as for pricing/shipping/etc. That would seal the deal once you come up with some prices shoot them to me jmanuel@myviscom.com I have my eyes set on a bezel already but as far as dashes etc.. i'm still looking for my dash has already been taken out and had a ps2 put in but just have to get that painted maybe a center console, floor pieces, pillar pieces etc... we'll talk just shoot me an email!
FOR SALE
Well the thing about it is I would only do it if I can offer it at a great price that makes people want to buy from me. the nice thing is you wouldn't have down time with the car other then putting it in yourself. I work a lot with paint so It would all be quality stuff, so you wouldn't have to worry about a crappy spray can job. The reason I thought about offering this is because their is always some post our there about someone who has tried painting an interior piece out there like 3 times, and it won't come out. Well this would be something they would just be able to buy. I'm not looking to get rich off of this, just looking to give something to the jbody community.
Drifted cavy- Right now I'm just trying to get a feel for if their is an interest in this. Which means if I do do it, then it won't be for a little bit. If their is a decent interest in this, then I will do what I can to have this up and running fast. Also the problem with trying to match something you already have done in the car would meen that I would need a sample sent to me so that way I could color match it. If you didn't have it already in the car, then we could go about it a different way with less hassle.
Does anyone have negative feedback, or any questions. Thanks everyone so far.
I'll be blunt, it's not really worth it for you.
You're trying to get a product to a community that
generally doesn't shell out money for a lot. In the end it will be more hassle than it was ever worth. If you want to give to the J-Body community, the best thing you can do is just be helpful here on the forums and provide good info. It's easy and takes less time commitment, and far less headache.

Raptor- I've already taken all of that into consideration before even making this post. I just don't want to try and get something like this going without knowing if anyone would actually want to buy. If no one really wants to, then fair enough, it was just an idea for now. If people would like to, then I have no problem starting it all up.
I was going to start a small biz doing the exact same thing, but decided not to, because of all the work involved (either have them send their pieces to you, and paint, then send back, or get the parts salvage and trade them) and the cost of supplies like sandpaper, filler and paint...plus its kinda ricey
I'm not looking to start an actual business doing this. I just figured I have the stuff to do it, and I have access to get stuff cheap, and i'm sure I can figure out something about getting the interior pieces at a deal, so why not just see if people were interested.
