3rd Gen Dome/Reading Light Swap?
Thursday, May 17, 2007 10:16 AM
My car's oddly equipped, but overall it has nothing - which means, no reading lamps. That feature's not something I use all that often, but I see it as possibly being a convenience item I'd like to add.

Which brings me to this - I likely can get my hands on the 'alien' dome lamp lens and perhaps the buttons, but I'm wondering if there's a particular bracket/bulb assembly that needs to be installed as well. Wiring shouldn't be a problem; I can splice off the leads to the existing dome bulb and I plan on locating the buttons somewhere on the headliner/lens itself.

Anyone know what else I'd need? If so, does anyone know where I can get one? I may just have to squeeze in some junkyard browsing this weekend.

Thanks!

That seems a bit harder than just wiring a couple switches/lights and popping in a lens.

Anyone know what else I'd need to install the OEM 'alien' dome lamps outside of the lens and switches?

You can't just splice of the existing wires since that only has power when the dome light is on or the door is open. You'd need a constant or switched 12v source. So other than that the wiring would be straight forward.

Just get a head liner out of a junk yard car that has the stuff in it already and wire it up would be my suggestion
