2005 Cavi gauge needles

I am confused, I have a couple people telling me different things, and I have read a couple things too

Can you remove the needles from the 2005 Cavalier cluster gauge? I am looking to change the background color on my. Do you need to just mark them and pull off? Or if you pull off you, can not put back in working condition? Do I need to drive the car and make notations of where the needles are when at operating temp, gas level and rpm and speed coordination?

I am off to the junkyard to buy a spare and also look for a SUNFIRE cluster too

You can only remove the needles safely on a 95-99 J. 00+ is doable but very, very risky.

OK - so I went to junk yard and got a 2002 SUNFIRE gauge cluster I also got a 2nd 2005 Cavalier cluster.
1) What color does the Sunfire cluster light up? Can I change the colors?
2) Is there anyone out here that can re-wire and soldier the Cavalier cluster?

I swear, I'm going to stab the next person who makes a topic about this . . .

No, you shouldn't remove the needles at all on the 00-05. If you are putting on overlays or white face gauges, move the needles so they are all pointing straight up, and the slide the faces over them very carefully. Make sure they go on all the way and that they are down firmly. Then move the needles back to where they were exactly and start up the car so you can see if the gauges will function right. If some of the needles seem stuck, push down on the white face gauges near the base of the needles. Some people don't put them on all the way, and the base of the needle rubs against the gauges and it causes them to read funky.

You can remove the needles on the 00-05 clusters, but like he said, it is VERY risky. There is a little pin that is under the needles on the 00-05, and when you remove the needles, 9/10 times that pin will pop out and you are screwed. Some people have had luck on getting the needles off without popping that pin and haven't had any hassles. I haven't seen one post yet about someone who has been able to fix an 00-05 clusters after removing the needles and having that pin come out. So just do it the easy and right way and put your over lays over the needles.

very true but even if you are lucky enough to get the needles off and the pins to stay in. Your cluster sometimes will not read the right MPH, RPM, Fuel and temp. I've done it on numerous clusters trying to figure out the easiest way to remove them so I can resolder the l.e.d.s. And while trying to figure that out I noticed the mishap with the calibration so just a word of warning if you plan on doing it.

Thats why I won't bother with LED's or anything like that. I'll just buy a good cluster or something off of Blackcat and let them deal with it, lol
