gauge swap problems

I have a 98 2.2 4 speed auto with digital odometer, i swapped in a gauge cluster out of a 99 Z24 the car runs fine and everything works except the fuel gauge. it shows no fuel and the light it is, the car has at least 3/4 tank of fuel in it. I understood that you had to have the 98-99 gauge cluster with digital odometer for my car. was I wrong? or is the fuel gauge just messed up on the cluster. Any help would be appreciated.

The fuel needle might just be off from before you got it. When I changed the face on my '99 cluster I had to reset both the fuel and engine temp needles. The speedo and tach seem to self-reset from wherever they start but the fuel and temp do not. Once I had the cluster back in I filled the tank and put the needle on F and it reads fine now. I put the engine temp needle right to the left of 195 after running it for a while because that's the normal hot temp. So I would try that and if not then it could be the needle motor which would be easy to swap out, or it could be pin B7 in the connector that is not making contact, and so on...

i haven't had a chance to pull everything back apart yet but I put fuel in my car and the guage rose alittle bit so I am guessing this is good. I will try to set in the next couple of days when I get the time. Thanks for the info.
