HVAC Lights not working
Saturday, May 26, 2007 1:02 PM
So here's the deal... HVAC light haven't worked for about 8 months now. I figured it was a burnt out bulb so today i replaced both bulbs. Nothing... they still don't work. I've checked the fuse labelled HVAC in the side fuse panel and it's fine. Any ideas? Are there any other fuses anywhere that could be causing them to not work? It's annoying at nite not having it light up! lol

BUMP

I have the same problem. Its in a 97 model cavalier. Mine have been out for 1 yr.+. but they did come on one night after i hit a bump, only once though, and wouldn't come back on after i cut the car off and started it back up later on that night.

mine have showed no signs of life for a long while now... even hitting it like some people have done doesnt make them come back on... its almost like the power line to them is dead... but i dont know where to trace it back to to check for breaks, etc.

The brightness is controlled by your dash dimmer switch. Try a new switch, might be a bad switch or just a bad connection at the switch

By the way, do you guys have aftermarket radios? If so did you tape up the connection where the stock antennas plugs into the adaptor? That bare metal is a - ground and will short out the HVAC controls/lights if it comes into contact occasionally.

Also, Wes if it came on like that with a bump I'd go over the wiring and see if it's a losse connection, or bare wire touching something.

i'll try the radio antenea thing. i have a parts car, so the other hvac controller shouldn't be that hard of a problem. once again jbody has helped me out.

mine have been out since i bought my car. i havent tried anything to fix them. but i would to fix them soon. but you said its possible that the antenna adapter could be grounding out the hvac, or it could be the controller? anything else by chance.

try disconnecting the battery. the cluster lights, dimmer switch, power window lights, and HVAC lights all run off the wire loom running from the BCM the HVAC runs off a different circut however. anyways i had this problem i grounded out somewhere in the wire loom and all i did was disconnect the battery and reconnect it. When it goes out the BCM throws an error code and kills them out to prevent further damage and the easiest way to clear this code(which this code wont cause a check engine or SES light to come on) is by simply disconnecting the battery. worked for me and it was the simplest thing to do didnt cost a dime and took a matter of a few seconds. and if that dont work you might try a new unit. hope it helps
