Dash Bezel

I Have a 2000 Chevy Cav, The dash bezel (around radio up to clusters) has a crack, and so does the front trim on the dash (right underneath the window). I seen that it is A LOT of work to get that front piece out, but how about the dash bezel? I want to get a new one but http://www.autoanything.com/dash-kits/71A1566A1295332A0A0.aspx?v_id=2349700 Does not come in a 2000. Does it matter if it is a 2001? are they the same? How much would one run from a salvage yard?

a 2000 and 2001 will use the same bezel. you have to take the top pad off to get to the screws. there is one screw on each side of the dash behind the panels. in the glovebox there are 3 or 4. there is one under the defroster vent. then when you get the pad off, there are a couple of screws on the bezel and your cig lighter has a wire plugged into it. also the int light switch wire. hope this helps.

i think you have to pull the whole dash out to replace the piece by the windshield. mine is cracked also. im just going to epoxy it.

awesome, Would buying a new Bezel be worth it? or is it easier to get one at a salvage yard (and cheaper).

What should i ask for, can it be from 2000-2005 or is it more limited in year?

I'm not sure about the prices but I have found a great tutorial on how to remove the bezel Here Just hit Removing your J-Body's Dash and it gives a great tutorial with pics. I hope this helps out. I don't even have my Cavalier yet and I'm confident I can remove the dash just from this site.

I just replaced my lower dash this weekend. Total it took me about 7 hours but I did some wiring while I was in there and that took way too long. If you wanted to replace the entire dash its a lot of work, but not difficult at all. Just lots of screws

you would be a fool to buy one for $200+ dollars. you can get them in a junk yard or here in the classifieds for much much cheaper. even ebay. for roughly $25-50

and you can use one from any 00-05 cav. they are the same bezel

I got a dash bezel for my '98 for $10 so they're all pretty cheap. But the work to replace it is aggravating to say the least, so be prepared. As far as the piece by the windshield, I could not find one Cavalier of any year in two yards without a crack in it. So I just got a plush $30 Dash Cover

I have a 2005 and purchased one and the junk yard for $15 and it took me 20 mins to get out

The Front Bezel doesn't seem to bad to replace, But The front piece, the 'lower dash' I think, is shaping up to be the part that i want done. I have a 4x4 inch hole in mine, right in line where my eyes go. It is incredibly annoying. If i could find one in a yard, even if it was cracked, I would rebuild it, paint it and drop it in. I know it takes a lot of time, and ive read the tutorials. The steering wheel needs to come off too, correct?

luckily i get out of school soon and will have time to do this.

Yes the steering wheel needs to come off to replace the lower dash....Or just pull your steering column. But its way easier to remove the wheel!!

It took a little searching but I found a lower dash at a junk yard in good shape and paid 20 bucks for it.

Did you have to remove it yourself? (The lower Dash @ the yard)

Also, is there a how to pull your wheel anywhere? (can't find one) Does the air bag cause trouble with pulling it?

Depends, If you go to a pick your part type place yes you have to remove it yourself. Its a lot cheaper. The 20 bucks was from a pick your part type place. For a full service salvage place expect to pay a LOT more for the part. I was quoted 150 for the piece. Its 190 new from GMPartsDirect.com

To remove the steering wheel you just need a torx screw driver bit. I forget what size. It think its between 25 and 30 to remove the air bag. 2003 and newer cars also need to have a spring released on each corner of the air bag. So yes you need to remove the air bag. For the 2003 and newer car it doesn't have a threaded place to insert the steering wheel puller. So we removed the nut and yanked on the wheel as someone beat on the center with a sledge hammer. Eventually it popped off.

Guess i am very grateful my top dash hasn't cracked. I even loosemed the nuts to be sure it never does.

thats why u use a wheel puller. use the center spline to rest the push part of the puller in, then bolts thru the wheel and ratchet it down

Thanks for that site Ethan, DO you know the part number?

Im under:

2000>Cavalier>Interior>Cowl/Dash

and im not seeing it.

Should i stop by my local GM dealer and see about ordering the part, i picked up some stuff from them for my 1992 Cav 2 door, and they weren't to unreasonable.

Im going to call junk yards tomorrow and get a quote. If i can avoid pulling it myself i will, i don't have that much time, and doing it on my own will take enough of it.

you mean like one of the ones with two or three claws that grab around the back of the pulley or wheel your removing? I didn't have one of those. Just a steering wheel puller. with bolts. If I had some nuts I could have used what I had though.

like this one.....

those 2 bolts screw into some wheels...some you need bolts to bolt in from behind the wheel. heres an example of where it bolts to the wheel, and the center spline is being pushed by the bolt you wrench out.

see the bolt in the center......as you turn/tighten that, the wheel is pushed off the spline....does that make sense? hope that helps

Yeah that makes sense. Its just a matter of finding the lower dash.......

Re: Dash Bezel

Ahh, well the puller I had only included straight bolts. Not like you have with the hooked ends. Would have been much more simple. I will have to pick one of those types up sometime. Thanks for the pic

I got my bezel trim for $35 shipped on ebay, coming in soon. I'm actually thinking of doing either a sunfire dash, or just finding a new tan one. Don't hate, I like my tan dash
