New Way to change color

Hey guys, I just tried a method I did years ago, when in Culinary School to identify our knife handles. I took the clear plastic out of my HVAC and boiled it in RIT fabric dye. I let it simmer for 30 mins. I did the same with the knobs but not as long. Here is a quick pic, it is translucent and I will post more when installed

any prep involved and will it work on most any clear plastics?

No there shouldn't be any prep. Just make sure you take the rubber coating off of the knobs (no brainer). RIT is a fabric dye and works extremely well on plastics as you can see. 30 min sounds like a good time. Just make sure the waters not too hot to make the plastic real soft. You can find RIT in basic colors in the laundry detergent section at your grocers.
