has anyone ever swapped out the entire dash from the 95-99 style cavy to the 2000-2005 style and if so how did everything go as in reinstalling the airbags.
I was told the wiring was too diffrent between them to change out
I was thinking about doing mine backwards. Apparently the 95-99 have the Odo. stored in the gauges them selfs and the 00+ store it in a relay somewhere else in the car. That's all I know right now but I will look into it for you
i plan on keeping the same odo. the dash is cracked all to hell just like any other cavy plus i don't like where the radio sits don't want to throw my hand into my dvd screen while shifting. it seems like someone tighten all the bolts done to tight and i only have live four bolts holding the dash up, waiting for it to completely fall one day while im driving. plus the dash pad or the dash bezel is not even screwed in because the places are all broke. i have the complete dash with the metal brace because where the radio sits the metal brace is different.
yes, its been done. joe schulte did it recently and it worked great.
its not just the DASH you need though, you need the steel tubing bracing that bolts in behind it as well, you also need a 00+ bezel, everything else fits just like 95-99.
also, dont go confusing yourself thinking 'ohh ill just swap the bezel and itll be fine' NOOOOPE where you would be re-locating the radio will now have that steel tubing bracing in the way, the HVAC wouild re-locate just fine, just not the radio. JOE cut his bracing if i remember right, and got away without having to get the 00+ bracing
you have to mod the inside of the dash (where the cluster is held down) to get it to stay put, iirc it wasnt a big deal at all for joe, you have to use your 95-99 cluster as well, or re-wire the car and use the correct VCM to work for a 00+ cluster.
the steering wheel air bag wont be effected by the dash, you have to either take the entire column out or pull the wheel to get the dash out though. and as far as i know the pass. air bag is the same exact thing, it should bolt down right where it did exactly in your 95-99 dash.
yea thats what i was thinking i have the steel tubing got it all from the junk yard for like 50 steel tube lower dash dash pad. just hate how the dash by the window cracks but this on can not be saved will take pic of the dash thats in it now and after pics
well damn. im glad i read this post. i wasnt told anything about needing the steel tubing also. i just have the dash and bezel.
I NEED a 97-99 LD9 engine harness for an auto.PM if u hav info.!!

u can just cut out where the radio would hit it, like i said... i BELIEVE thats what joe did to get his to work.
and as for the "cracking" issue... put a front strut tower brace on the car and put tiny dynamat sectioens under each bolt where the bracing bolts to the car and where the dash bolts to the bracing.
if it still cracks after that... have the cracked section wrapped in a stock color vynal or something, there was a guy on here that did it to his and it looked perfect, if you didnt know it was supposed to be plastic and not vynal you would never know the difference in his car. he did an awsome job.
but, i highly doubt that if you do the strut brace and dynamattiing it will crack again.
well i plan on doing thid friday so i'll take pics of the removal and install and let everyone know how it went hopefully i can do it all in about 3 hours
cool. i guess ill find out if the radio will fit when i cut the brace. thanks bro.

yeah you can do it , its been done
as long as you dont swap clusters your golden... but last i heard theres fitment problems with the old clusters in new dash. dont quote me but i believe that what i heard.
plus its not that big of a deal also from what i hear.
ok so i didnt get a chance to start the conversion yet wont get a chance until sunday or monday going to a taping of pinks tomorrow and need something to drive
have fun, check out my cardomain,

it was a fun swap, but i've got a bouncy dash down, and i cant figure out why
i've redone it a few times now just to make sure everythings tight, but the center stack seems to bounce going over some rough territory

ok so i got most of the swapping done today just need to finish painting the dash bezel and then i will have some pics to post
awesome, how hard was getting the cluster to work?
not hard at all as long as you have a dremel or something sim. its very easy just have to screw the cluster to the plastic but other than that its good plan on switching out the cluster bulbs to red to match the car
nice turnaround time, i still havent finished my cav to fire dash yet, but im lazy
from the swap, anybody get a bouncy dash?

no my dash is not bouncy at all if yours is then go back and check all of the bolts even the one right in front of the center con. the one for the metal frame and the one for the dash. and if you cut the metal then that could cause it to bounce
