i am in the middle of repainting my interior from an ugly tan to a flat black and im getting ready to paint the door panels. Before i painted them i wanted to get the (carpet piece )not the 2 little sections at the bottom of the panel but the section by the handle wrapped in black suede or some other material than the stock stuff. i was under the impression that you could just take that section out and get it wrapped but now that i took the panel off i see that it is built into the panel . and it looks like the only way to get it out is to cut it out and i dont think thats a great idea. so does anybody have a solution for me or any other suggestions on what i should do??????? thanks
cut a piece of cloth to fit it, slip over handle, replace panel...finished.
ive done it and as long as you make clean cuts it works fine
not the door handle peice the tweed carpet piece that is 2ft wide and like 1ft tall i think its tweed carpet now ?? r we talking about the same section of the door panel ?
do you mean the arm rest part? if so, thats held in by plastic welds. you'd need to cut off the welds, pull off the armrest, recover it, and re attach it. thats the tough part. i used epoxy once...and also ive tried .............dammit, i just went blank. cant think of the name for some reason....ill post it when i think about it. lol
i used liquid nails to hold it back in holding strong just need to put some weight on it for about 24 hours
^^^thats what i couldnt think of.....liquid nails!
after i applied it, i set 2 10 lb weights on it to hold it down firm
I did mine and then re glued them. I still need to do the bottom pockets though.
alright thanks guys for the help i guess i'll use a dremil to cut the plastic welds then use some liquid nails that should hold them on there like before right??
Automotive Goo would probably work well too if you don't want to mess with Liquid Nails.
it depends, 00+ have plastic weld in the back of the door panel, but 95-99 you can just use a flat screw driver and pry it out from the front. just be gentle, there is glue on the back. i can take pics if you want.
