Left my lights on one too many times
Sunday, June 24, 2007 8:23 PM
I have no door chimes. I have no factory radio to wire into the trunk. I want to put an LED (Bright Blue or Bright Red 5mm) , on my pillar in plain view of me getting out of the car.

I know a little electrical understanding.

my idea....

Use This Auto resistor and use that to make it so that when the lights are on and the door opens, the light comes on.

Does anyone have some suggestions on how to wire this or how to do this, what wires to tap into, ect. That would be great

I would like to use the factory switch on the door jam, but if i must install another i would do that too.

ok um i really have no freakin clue what you want but i guess ill try and help here. So you what to place a Single 5mm LED light on the a-pillar that only comes on when the door opens right? so go to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts and pick up a pack of 4 prewired 12v LEDs color of your choice, take the power wire and tap into the door jamb switch power wire and the ground the ground wire for the LED. There you go. i think thats what u want anyways

yep, he said, thats the easiest way to do it. just use a voltmeter and actuate the switch manually to make sure you get the right one and you'll be fine

OK - its dark outside, his headlights are on, and he wants a SMALL little light to warn him that his BRIGHT HEADLIGHTS are still on?? Is there something wrong with that? How about a little common sense??

Re Dug

I drive with my headlights on, all house of the day. DRL or not, its what i do, i learned that way. I took drivers ed before i got my license, and its something that stuck.
In the morning when i go to work its dark, and i drive with them on. When i get there its light out enough that seeing my headlights on is nearly impossible, and if im in a rush i don't catch myself.

Thats my reason.

Rich, you got the point.
How about wiring in from the headlight itself, power from it that is, and adding the door switch into the circuit between my led and the head light + wire.

I would but in resistors too. Just so we are all clear.

why not just buy an aftermarket harness for the stereo that has the chime built in? easier and more noticable when your getting out. As for how to do the led, its fairly simple, our park lights are positively triggered, so hook your led 12+ to those, and hook your ground to the door switch which is negatively triggered, unless both thelights are on and the door is open they wont work, make sure you use resistors aswell

4 pin relay

Run a wire from park light power to pin 85 (brown wire on park light harness)
Run a wire from the Light Green/Black DR wire on the door switch to pin 30. (I think that's the wire)
86 is relay ground
87 is relay output.

Should only turn on the LEDs when the parking lights are on (and headlights for that matter) and the door is open.

easiest way is get a gmos01 harness from circuitcity and that will end your problems

I dont want to wire in a new harness. I am going to get a NC momentary switch and add that into the space between the dash and the door (around the fuse panel). I'll put it in there and draw the power from the headlights.
