hey guys i have a 96 Cavalier Z 5 spd and i really like th sunfire door panels better and was wondering....would it just take some cutting and fiberglassing work to get the sunfire panels to work with the cavy dashes? i am pretty good with fiberglass so that wouldnt be a prob. also which year do you think looks the best out of the sunfires? thanks guys

well what i like about them is the pull handle the cavys just have a little grip hole in front of the arm rest and i have a pretty custom interior so it doesnt look like a stock cavy so i dont know i may just head 2 a yard and see how much they want for a couple and see how it would look and if it wont look right i will have an extra set of door panels laying around lol

i like the idea, but i dont think it would flow either. the sunfire door panels flow right into the lower dash, and without that lower dash i think it would look odd.

if you're gonna go thru the hassle of modding fire doors to fit, why not up the ante and get something completely different?

before brian (z2flip4) gave up, he was molding grand am panels to his cavi ones. the grand am panels are similar to the sunfire, but much nicer looking.

ANYTHING WILL FIT....if your going to cut and fiberglass like you said.

May not be easy.....will not be easy. But if you think its worth it, go for it.

Or make your own custom set with fiberglass (recommended)

im pretty good with fiberglass thats not the prob, i am looking for something that will bolt into the stock holes and just the panel itself needs customizing. thats why i was gonna go with sunfire but if grand am panels with fit and use the same bolt holes i will probably go that way cause i do like those alot 2

I did this with my 95 cavy, and swapped in 99 sunfire gt door panels, and I actually find it flows very well. You will have to do a little cutting, and fill the top front of the door panels, where the sunfire dash fits in, but all in all I think it looks great.

I haven't finished the glassing yet. but I will grab some pics for you tomorrow, (im at work right now)
It will give you a rough idea of what you will have to cut to make it fit.
As far as bolting up everything is pretty much the same except the actual armrest on the cavy, used different bolts than the sunfire.
I never re-used mine, but if you choose to, you will have to drill out the bracket off the sunfire, and pop rivet it onto the cavy.
But in all honesty, there is more than enough support so the bracket is really not needed.

yea i noticed that...i will be doin some fiberglass on it anyway so it will be a little heavier so i will have to add a little support somewhere but yea some pics would be awesome

I"m curious how you are dealing with the dash frame. I'm not sure if it's in the way, When I did the HUD mod on my car, The frame was in the way.
