First i've looked through all 15 pages it gave me when i typed in "e-brake." Ok the real question at hand, before i was a j-body member i thought i could put a new handle on my e-brake without modding it. I pulled and pulled and it wouldnt come off. Well.... to make a long story short, i pulled the button on the end off and now it will not lock.
So... when i go to the junkyard to get a new one, how easy is it to get one off. Are they bolted or welded on? Does it matter what year i get it from or how many doors? How hard is it to install one because NBAM(National Branke and Muffler) said 200$ and thats muy loco. Muchas gracias mis amigos. Ustedes siempre ayuda a mi. (Thanks my friends. You always help me)
rules!!!!!!!!!!
bolted on. need to remove the console (10mm bolts, bring a socket and a 3" extension), shifter needs to come off (13 or 15mm nuts, can't recall at the moment), then the e-brake (should be the same size as the shifter nuts)
If you don't want to fiddle with the cable, a set of quality wire cutters will take care of that.
I don't think it matters, but try to find one that's the same # of doors as your car, just in case.
As for the aftermarket shifter handle, there's a post around that gives a how-to (sorta), it involves cutting down the plastic on the stock handle...
Or when you go the junkyard, look for Sunfires, some had leather wrapped handbrakes. Install one of those.
^ X2, got my Sunfire leather wrapped one new from GMPD, 50-ish shipped brand new. The hardest part was getting the cable back in place.

No, just think of the stock handle, with a piece of thin leather wrapped around it stitched along the top. The leather is a precise match to the graphite interiors.
