Sorry! Another Cluster question...
Tuesday, July 17, 2007 10:41 PM
Ok so i own a 2001 J and the lights for the digital Odo went out.(It is no longer bright, but under certain natural lighting it can still be read). So my question is this how would i go about removing the circuit board behind the cluster where the needles are plugged into so i can get back there inbetween? I have read here that the worst thing to do for my cluster is to remove the needles and if i have to get to the leds what will happen?

Another question for you guys/gals my factory cluster did not come with the tach on it...so if i were to say swap in a cluster with the tach on it would i have to do some rewiring in order to get the tach to work? Or is it just that all of the j have the ability to work a tach through the cluster wires just not all J's came with the tach?

If i can switch out the cluster with one that has the tach and it will work easily then please disregard my first question as in it will be pointless to fix that one with a new cluster.

Xell, I have a perfectly fine Cluster with Tach (left over from a sunfire swap) that im willing to sell you, as it is the best option for 00+.

Ok this is what you do... Pimp Smack your dash board a few times the light might come back on if not youll need a new cluster. You can swap to any cluster sunfire or cavalier 00+. There is no rewiring its simple plug and play... And onto the last question you can take out the needles but you risk the chance of screwing up your cluster beyond belief. So I personally recommand not messing with them at all ,if you want a different color contact Alex at Black Cat Custom , he can design a cluster for you with different colors needles etc.

All the cars are wired for a tach, it's only some of the clusters that don't have one. The ECU sends the same signals either way.

Thanks for all the replies guys/gals (not sure who is a guy or gal). Yeah i read on another post about smacking the dash a bit and well...IT WORKED! hahaha though one of the lights on the far left is still out.

And about that cluster from a sunfire i may be interested just a matter of getting the money together and contacting you.
