Hey -- I have an '02 cav that I recently Installed a fidanza short throw shifter into.
We could not get the stock knob off the stock shaft, and ended up destroying everything, to get the clip that holds the ball in.
Im looking to get another stock shiftknob (i wanna keep the interior mostly stock looking, with a few minor changes).
I would go to a scrapyard, but it doesnt seem to be a good idea, seeing as though we couldnt get the knob off the car.
Is there somewhere I can get the stock knob? Or is there one that I can get aftermarket that looks very similar to it? I have a walmart cheapie on there right now and I hate it.
Ive been googleing for a while and GMpartsdirect doesnt have what im looking for.
this is an '02 cav, if that makes a difference.
thanks!
I don't know if thats going to work. From my experience with putting a B&M Short throw on my car and helping an old girl friend put a new shift knob on her car. All of the shift knobs on the 00+ cavies ar one piece with the shifter to get it off you must destroy it, and in destroying it makes it not usable again, obviously. Although i am not an expert on the matter i just don't see how you could physically remove a knob from a stock shifter and have it still be usuable for another car. I know GM parts direct or any gm parts dealer will not have what your looking for because they sell the shifter as one piece.
My best advice for you is to do some online searching nopi, ebay or something to find an aftermarket one that suits your liking. (MOMO makes really good products, can be pricey, but worth the money in the end).
Good luck though man i hope this helps some.
I think I have my stock shift knob. I will probably let it go.

i have my stock still i could send out, but now i am curious cuz i thought on 00+ the knob pulled straight off, no clips or any of that stuff. At least on my 01 the knob pulled straight out.
the knobs can pull off if your lucky
the factory puts the knobs on hot , and when they cool they shrink and the plastic sticks into the grids on the lever
Sorry to thread jack but does any one know what the thread size for the B&M Short shifter is? The knob that came with it was stolen and the stock ones falling apart.
Too bad you can't use a blue wrench on the shaft itself, might get lucky with an intact stock knob just sliding on, melting the plastic some as it does, and as it cools it forms itself to the knurling on the end of the shaft. Stupid plastic reverse lockout precludes that though.
