5 pt harnesses
Tuesday, August 21, 2007 7:58 AM
I am getting a set of simpson 5 pt harnesses for my 04 fire and was wondering what the best way to mount them in the car would be. I want to be able to still use the back seat while not wearing the harnesses but not have to install and remove them everytime i want to carry passengers.

roll cage or anchor them to the floor behind the seat

I dont want to cage the car since it is a daily driver and the angle if mounted to the floor is too steep and will shear the harness. i thought about mounting it to the package tray but that would limit accessability to the rear seats. does anyone make a removable harness bar for the j's. i know sparco makes them for EVO's and STI's but i have yet to see one for anything else.

mounting to the bottom of the seats is dangerous. plain and simple.

contact Chris or Cody at RDFabs for a harness bar. I had the original protoype made by them for my car.

Don't forget, it's more than just "where do I put them." It also has to do with the proper angles so you don't compress your spine, God forbid you get into a serious accident. Our harness bar is VERY well priced and probably your best bet without a roll cage.

This is what I did to mount my 4 point RSM harnesses. It is completely removable and I can still utilize the factory belts. When it comes out, I have plugs that cover the holes - Looks factory again.

BTW - This bar was designed by a roll cage specialist and the angle is correct - No spine damage for me and the passenger.

He's got an 04 chris, we need to get our hands on a new j that has the stupid foam behind the b- pillar to make it so they will work on the late 03+. They do work on the 03's that came out early in the year but anything after that just doesn't work and we don't know why yet. So were working on getting a new design for the new J's so we don't have this stupid issue anymore.

mine is an 03 that had the foam behind the pillars.....and the one you guys built me worked

i did have to do a little bending in the mount tabs, but no biggie.

i just talk to you guys at rdfabs, the bar you guys made for me didnt fit cause i had the screwy 03 that had the changes in it, so like i told you guys, when i get back to NY, you will have your hands on an 03 that has the new setup, cause the guy i talked to said he wanted me to bring mine up to the shop to make a custom one and then you guys could make a jig from that one for the next time you get a newer cav or fire.

many changes in the making

That sounds great, man--can't wait to get my hands on your car so we can avoid this problem in the future. Also, sorry for the inconvenience of the whole thing. But it seriously does make me wonder why the bar fit in Eazy's 2003. Effin' weird, I tell ya!

Can we get some more pics of that?? Like where/how it mounts and the such.

would mounting the harness to the floor with a plate work if i mounted it where the top and bottom cushions meet for the rear seat? that should keep the angle in check and still provide use to th back seat.

Some people have dome something like that. I think it's sndsgood that has a set of 3 Point Retractor (or maybe the double release) Corbeau harnesses attached to the back seat belt mounting holes (the one on that "hump"). It's not perfect but it gets you a bunch closer to good specs.
