I've been painting my interior based on the "how to paint your interior sticky" for about 2 weeks now and not really happy with the results....

i bought a paint gun and had a compressor lying around the house so I decided to the interior properly. Dooes anybody know a good high quality paint that you would recommend for interiors( please list where you can get and price). also if im gonna redo the paint on the pieces i did with spray paint how far should i sand down? to primer? past primer? does it matter?
im also gonna dye the vinyl dash and console lid, does it matter which product i use or any can at walmart for vinyl will do? and is it possible so take out the texture on a vinyl piece without fiberglassing it?
as far as auto paint, theres a ton of choices. go to your local paint/auto body supply store. prices vary greatly. Keystone and Sherwin Williams automotive are 2 big name places
also, painting with a gun is tough....it wont be easy. i would sand down to the primer, and prolly re-prime with a decent auto primer...non-rattle can. once you sand it down, prime, sand again and prime once more.

well i jsut sanded down my door panel in the pic past primer and let me tell you that was unpleasent lol
as far as the spray gun being hard... im sure half assing with the gun would get a better finish then i got with the can :p
how many coats you think would be good for the paint and clear? with the can i did 6 paint and 6 clear... 3 at first then sand then paint then sand then paint then sand then paint..... too much?
what grit you think would be good for sanding the paint and clear? i went up to 2000 but i find that abit too high

sorry, i was at work....and am now too, lol.....so i cant view your pic, but one suggestion is to use a block when sanding. makes things a little easier across the long flat surfaces.
and i agree, half assing with a gun 9/10 times will be better than rattle. as far as # of coats, i would honestly do maybe 2 or 3 light coats of color, and same with clear. just make sure you get good even coverage. play around with the paint gun a little to figure out your optimal settings for a clean even spray.
and for auto paint, as long as you dont have big runs or anything, you can get away with not sanding the color.....just wet sand the clear. i would useupto 1500 personally. then a little buff out and should be good

all i did when i painted my stuff was wet sand with some 600 grit sandpaper..prime it and spray away. i used a fabric and vinyl spray on mine i never got a chance to get the rest of my dash done too busy lately, should all be done soon..i'll see if i can get a pic up i'm new here and aint too shure on how to work this site yet so sorry if i f*^k it up.

if you decide to use auto paint . i recommend using single stage paint. dont have to worry about a clear with that. its all mixed. all u have to do is really prime then sand then paint. single stage paint is way cheaper than to go with base's and clears separately

lookin at the pics it looks like you needed to sand down more of the texture if u were goin for the fiberglassed look, then again it could just be the pics, i know it took me a while to get all the texture off mine, im still workin on parts, but i dont have alot of time really so i do it when i can, ill put up some pics when im finished
^^an air powered DA and a good filler primer(auto primer) makes things SOO much easier. i had my panels sanded down and in primer after roughly an hour-hour and a half between the 2 front and 2 rear panels
and the beauty of filler primer is it doesnt have to be perfect sprays, so most any amateur can do it since it will get sanded down anyways
damn scott that looks smooth, what color is that? im doin all mine in the gunmetal metallic, close to stock but not if u know what i mean.... lol
i did mine in black...looks reallyyyyyy good when its done but its HARD to keep clean...black shows every bit of dust so im always waxing it..i just used the duplicolor can paint....rednine7 used car paint single stage on his and i think it looks alot better i just didnt have access to a paint gun
