Alright check it out. I work at Best Buy, and I came up on this really nice Pioneer avic-Z2 indash with Nav and the whole nine! it's intense. anyway, it's set for a double din opening.. which I have, only problem is I was in a 2000+ something Cavalier like a month ago, and I noticed that they have an entirely different dashboard configuration.. on that dash the deck is above the ac/heater controls, which would be ALOT better to mount my new head unit rather than all low by the shift knob like I would put it now..
Basically I want to know if anyone as ever tried swapping a 1995 to 1998 dash for a 2000+ if you have seen a different one before you'll know what i'm talking about.
you'll have to remove the whole dash, but its very doable. if I had to guess...I could do it in 2 hours or less. but you need the WHOLE dash...perhaps the main brace too....unsure of that
F*** yeah bro, that's like exactly what I want to do! I'll just google how to remove the steering wheel.and @!#$ right now.. but from the pictures that you posted it makes me think.. Can I just remove that piece that surrounds the gauge cluster and radio, or do I have to swap the whole dash?
you have to switch the entire dash the metal fram you can keep but you will have to cut it for the radio part to fit in the second pic is a metal brace from a 00+ dash the reason you cant just add the bezel is that the 00+ dash because the hvac sits lower in the 00+ so if you @!#$ch just the bezel it will sit a few inches lower and plus the radio will not fit in pulling the steering whell isnt that bad just make sure the battery is disconnected for at least 30 mins if not longer to prevent the airbags from deploying they need to be removed in order to switch the dash out any other ? just ask and i can try to answer them for you
