I would like to do that but wondered if it is the way to go. Any thoughts on this?
I have a gun metal grey paint I am thinking about using.
with the right prep....absolutely. I'm no expert in prepping for plastic though. I know they make some adhesion promoters. PPG makes on for sure. Check your local auto body paint store, they should be able to help you with the process
Good idea! I am sure it will dry ok because of the hardner that you add to the paint. I may stick with black to play it safe.
Thxs!
well....what are you planning on painting? the vinyl? if so, i personally wouldnt. the second you pick the dash up to put it back in, etc....it will crack.
hardener in paint isnt a strength builder
Okay I will just use a plastic paint for the dash. I was wondering if it would work and apparently it might be risky to do.
Some times I wish I had asked before doing something but this time I did ask and I am glad I did.
Too many ways to get into trouble & this is one of those things.
wouldn't flex agents help though? or is that too much flex?
^^flex agents wont help on a surface like the dash. it would have to be like rubber for it to not crack. think about all the flex you get in the dash top when you pull it out of the car....then think of a hard paint(even with flex agent in it) over it. it wiould just shatter from a center spot and work its way out
heres what i did....
i first sprayed my dash with this:
the i sprayed my dash with this
then let it sit for a day or so till its dry to touch (no longer tacky)
then i painted it with this
and let that sit for a day as well...
then you can install it. its been a few months and i havent had any problems!
Looks good to me! Why not just spray with the first can?
well i already had the vynal on.... but it didnt turn out the way i thought it was going to. then i started to take the vynal stuff off but the problem was some areas came of really easy others would come off at all... so i resprayed it first with the vynal spray so that the first coat/level was consistant.
does that make sense?
NOW IT MAKES SENSE! I know I have re-painted something that didn't work out right with a different paint hoping the new paint worked better.
I have my dash Painted by a Professional. Doesnt crack or nothing. its feels like its not even painted. it just gets dirty QUICKLY since its White lol
