Power Window Question
Tuesday, October 16, 2007 9:38 AM
ive searched but didnt find anything. i just have a question about the windows. currently my car is in the middle of a motor swap. everything is out and my windows are half way down. before the car was in a garage with a car cover on it so it wasnt a big deal. i had to move the car outside of the garage but i still have the car cover on it. it should be fine but im just curious as to if i can take the door panels off and move the tracking up manually to get the windows to go up?

not positive as to how, but im almost 100% positive you can do it manually.

but either way, couldnt you hook a battery upto the harness to make it function just enough to get them up??

dont quote me here, but dont the auto windows have the same type of gear that move the base/frame of the window up/down? if so, see if you can slip something in there to crank on it.

thats the thing though, theres nothing to hook it up to. the whole engine bay is gutted. only thing in the bay is the main wiring harness. i removed the battery termials from the car

take a wrench and take the 2 bolts off the plastic holder that holds the glass to the metal frame (2 bolts) then manually lift the window and prop it with a rod..... when you get your car back together just re attach the plastic piece thats on the glass back to the metal frame.

Go to the junkyard and cut the wiring for the motors (you only need one)
Connect the connector to the motor and connect a 12 volt source ( a cordless drill battery will work fine) if it goes down reverse the battery
then, go to the other side and repeat. - The End

Sure, I tell you then you tell someone else, next thing you know, we're in the middle of another ice age.

jeese. all he needs to do is pull off the door panels and unplug the harnes from the motor. take 2 jumper wires hook them up the the battery. and then touch them to the terminals on the window motor. its simple. its done in auto body shops all the time. very common practice.
