How do I...?
Thursday, December 20, 2007 6:26 AM
How would I go about taking off the 2 plastic pieces that go behind the steering wheel? I've looked several times and cant quite figure out how to do it. Also I searched but couldnt find anything because I didnt quite now what to put?
Any help would be appreciated as I really need to get these parts out and prepped for paint asap

theres 3 bolts on the bottom, remove them and then the 2 pieces are clipped together. pull from the top and bottom to pull apart.

even having only a general idea of what we're talking about, it should take you no more than 2-3 mins to accomplish. you'll be surprised how easy it is

and oh ya, i also forgot you'll need to remove the tilt lever if you have tilt wheel. it just unscrews

nope no tilt, my car is as "base model" as it can get,
Another thing I was wondering for next winter.. how hard is it to take out the big plastic side panels in the back seat area? they look like they could be a hard job.

they arent too bad. alot easier if the rear bench is out, but its basically the screw that holds in the "hanger" for clothes hangers, and the rest is just clipped in, so pull and it will pop out

You have to take at least the back of the seat out, though, as the post goes through the side panel.
Also, don't forget you need to remove the shoulder belt hanger from the passenger and driver belts.
Still a fairly simple job.

7mm on the bottom of the column (or 9/32), should be a T45 torx for the seatbelt bolt

I didnt either, i learnt by doing it, i tore my dash out, sanded it smooth, grabbed one of my dads spray guns hooked it to the compressor and went to town! turned out pretty good IMO, i used the how-to from the interior forum, except instead of a rattle can i used a paint gun. It's really not as hard as it looks lol
