I redid my sunfire door inserts today, what you guys think?
Before
After
I see a lot of Cavalier insert recovers on here, not to many sunfire jobs. It's alot easier with sunfire then you cav guys, no plastic clips, they are metal and they just bend right out and back, no breaking necessary. Just carefully pry up the foam, unbend the metal pins, remove one round screw thing with pliers and out she comes. Only problem is the cloth go's underneath the rubber seal and is stapled from behind at the top. You'd have to remove those staples to get it back like stock and it would be a pita. I just cut it wrapped it and put it back, fortunately the rubber trim at the top had plenty of "lip" to cover the edge, so it looks as clean as stock.
looks nice, what material?
how hard would it be to match the speaker insert?
the before was faded, but at least it matched the rest of the door!! but nice work. looks like a good quality job
weird... the bottom picture is what my stockers look like..... I like the look of the before
I used a faux black suede from the fabric store 5.99 a yard. It seems like pretty good quality stuff. The camera flash is throwing off the color's a bit, it almost has a purple look in these shots, it's darker and smoother in reality. The Original was very very faded, it was much darker when new too. Im sure this black will fade to a grey over time, I was thinking about fade when I got black. Im not sure how hard it would be to match the speaker inserts, I did not look at how that was put together, I like the way they look now.
Looks good. I need to recover mine.
I used a spray adhesive over the old material.
