I can't stand the look of the rear seat panels in my '02 Sunfire GT. When you look from the front door panels to the rear seat panels it looks as if the rear seat panels are supposed to have cloth on them, but don't. I came up with the idea to add some matching graphite Patina/Redondo cloth to the rear seat panels to make the interior flow better, but I am unsure of how to attach the cloth to the plastic panels. I want the cloth to fill in the "depression" in the rear seat panels and go all the way up to the edge closest to the quarter windows. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could go about doing this? Thanks in advance.

Here's a picture of Wild Weasel's rear seat panels. I want to do an insert like he did, except I'd like for mine to go all the way up to the quarter windows.
weasels as far as i remember is basically the leather wrapped around a wood panel and then screwed on from the backside. you'd have to do something similar. if your looking to fill that piece in so its all flush i'd tape up the panel. fill it with expanding foam. when that hardened i'd shape and smooth the foam how you want it, then fiberglass that piece giving yourself a few layers for strength, then attach some wood to the backside of the fiberglass piece, smooth it out. wrap in your material then screw it in from behind to the wood blocks you attached to the backside of the fiberglass. a note when your sanding and shaping the foam. cut off a bit more so its not flush. this way when you build up probalby 4 or so layers the top layer will be flush with it.

Yeah, I was going to say something about a wooden tamplate. You could also use some PLxxx (not too sure which one you would want to use). I would suggest Vulkum but it's more of a polyurithane sealant. Or, you could just wrap it behind the wood and staple it. There is also a spray adhesive made by 3M that you can also use. The ideas of applying the material is endless.

! I think what I might do is get the rear panels out of a '95-'99 Sunfire because some of them had cloth inserts and then I'll just re-wrap the cloth to match my seats and all. That will be a lot easier. Thanks for the help anyway guys

I think it was just the 95-96 gts that had the cloth on the rear panels.
I grabbed a set outta my 95 for that reason, I don't think I had ever seen a set until then, but they look a bit different shaped.
It was the 95/96 GT and SE coupes that had them... the 96 SE that I got my graphite headliner had the back panels like that.

. I'll have to keep my eyes open for '95-'96 Sunfires at the junkyard. Re-wrapping the cloth inserts on those will be much easier. While it's not quite the look I wanted, it will still look better with some more cloth back there as oppose to all that damn plastic.
J TO ENVY... I'm sure that you probably could find a pair with that patina/redondo cloth on them already. I would really want a pair, but I have that fanfair cloth... and they didn't make that in 95/96.

Finding them will be the easy part, but I'm sure the cloth will probably be pretty faded
. I guess I could always find some good seats that aren't faded and just cut some of the fabric off
. According to your profile you want to switch to the Patina/Redondo cloth anyway so then it wouldn't be a problem
. The Patina/Redondo cloth is the best looking cloth ever offered in any J IMO.

I am going to the junkyard tomorrow. I am going to look for the '95-'96 panels and decide whether or not I just want to get a set of them instead of trying to create some sort of insert for the current ones. Thanks for the information and opinions guys

Actually, after talking to a friend of mine, I am going to have a friend of his just make some custom inserts. I am going to cut the fabric off the back of two front seats from a GT for him to use. He re-wrapped the seats and door panels in my friend's Supra and he did an excellent job, so I'm sure he'll be able to make some nice inserts no problem.
I will post pictures when I get them done.
