Help Quick, Dash out, looking to do the foam repair for HVAC

I was told as soon as you look down into the center opening for the hvac piping you'll see some foam that you either have to remove or trim...

I had the dash apart to replace the gauge cluster because of a flickering odoemter.

Is this it? (I show the opening of the dash first, and then the thin foam piece down below)

It's on a 2000 Sunfire. Thanks!

Actually, does it have more to do with these 2 door flaps with a thin layer of foam on top? (I removed the center air duct piece)

Nevermind. The plastic piece that holds the lever for the HVAC direction control has broke. What a horrible design to have that thin piece of plastic there to hold that metal lever.

Not sure how to change that, looks tricky to get at. Oh well.

This was a factory recall. I dropped my car off, picked of a nicely loaded Trailblazer for a loaner at the lot...and got it all done for free.

If it can't drag, it ain't low enough!

Well I called GM and there were no outstanding recalls for this car regarding that, and I had them go back through and there was no mention of that call. I called GM Canada too btw. What year is yours?
