I got the dash crack and I am looking at a possible fix for it, right now I have a piece of vinyl on it. My idea is to dremel out the cracked piece and replace it with the sunfire removable trim. I'm thinking this would work based on the fact that the car is exact same but I don't how it would fit into that space. What do you guys think?
I was thinking even perhaps using a dremel to take a good one out of another cavalier and putting it mine. Then again it could crack during the dremel
I would make brackets to secure them into place.
Why don't u just put a new uncracked dash in rather than going threw all the hassles of fixing?
there is a company that makes a plastic removable cover for that area on the cavs...there is a post here somewhere.
im confused as to why you need a dremel to begin with...
im not sure if the sunfire piece will fit in your cav... but my gut is sayin no
Bingo Bango.
Best way to go. Other than finding a good dash (a no can do around here), and taking the time to do it. This is a quick and great looking way to fix the crack.
that piece you want to remove with a dremel is actually a major part of the dash structure (the dash is all one piece). your best bet, would be to get the overlay. the sunfire dash really doesnt have much in common with the cavy dash
I know about the overlay but I don't know....
Im just trying to find a cheapo way. I know its all one piece so thats why I have to dremel it out so that I can get another one in. I might buy a sunfire dash trim piece from someone and play around with it. My friend has a Fire I will measure his out and check out the fitment.
However if I can find a good deal on the overlay I may take advantage of it.

because then you have to pull your whole dash out and replace it with another @!#$ty dash that could possibly crack a week later.
imo your best bet is the cover lay. cheapest doesnt always equal best.
I like that fix ^^^^ he did it good, mine would be slightly different fix though.
id almost say just make your own coverlay.. go to the junk yard, take a cordless dremmel with ya cut that entire peice out of the dash, bring it home ,clean it up and secure it in ontop of yours...
when ya cut it out of the other dash just make sure you leave enough of it to fit under your dash pad and hide the original dash peice thats cracked..
most a junk yard is gonna charge ya for what they think to be junk plastic is about 7-10 dollers.. when it has the same effect of one that costs 120 plus shipping its worth a shot..
