So I realize the crack in the upper dash is notorious on Cavys, however when I purchased mine I didnt think it was such a big deal..... until I took the dash out and the problem came to fruition. As most on here know, and I didn't because im a newbie, the upper dash pad is attached to the whole dash, whereas I thought it would just pop off pop on, easy fix. Now I dont really want to replace the whole dash and kindof want to avoid paying 100+ for a cover as I am a university student and only work 2 days a week. I was wondering if this would work, any advice and input is greatly appreciated and more than welcome....
- Remove the cracked dash front with a small jig saw blade, cutting under the edge that is covered by the front part of the dash
- Glue the crack back together, tape or something across the crack for extra support
- Fibreglass the whole dash, fill, prime, sand, paint, sand, sand, sand, sand, paint lol.
- Then possibly glue on some mounting points, or use mounting tape to keep it on...
Good idea or not so good?
Anyone else tried something like this or know of any how to's?
Thanks

you can get a cheap dash from a junk yard.. . what you have planned is very time consuming. taking out the dash and putting a replacement only takes a fraction of that timecompared to fiberglassing

so you would rather spend about 100 bucks in materials for fiberglass, sand paper and paint to do the whole dash instead of just getting a cover lay and calling it a day?
Well first off, I already have all the supplies from previous jobs, just need to pick up some resin, otherwise I have it all, and like I said I only work 2 days a week so $20 is alot easier on my wallet than $100 at this moment in time haha. And about the junkyard, I figured I could maybe find one, if its not cracked as well. But does anyone know how difficult it is to get that piece out??, Im thinking I would have to remove the airbag and steering wheel.[size=default]
Yup, all that would have to come off as you are pulling the entire main dash. I know that there are plastic repair kits out on the market that look like that they could fix it, but I'm not sure if that has ever been tried on the dash crack. You can pick some of those up depending on what you wanted from $10-$35. Those also can be sanded. It would prob be better to pull the dash and fill in under the dash, but I'm guessing it could be done in the car.
Well, I guess i'll be the one to provide the
Link that is provided in every other post.
