Saturday, June 04, 2005 3:38 PM
Well after being lazy for a long time and now that my court case is over, i can start modding again...so today i did a few things...

My dirty Engine... I added white wire loom

Also i started to paint my interior, i start with my headliner...i used Dupli color: Fabric and Vinyl coloring.

Now this was my first painting project and i think i did pretty good for not doing this before, but let me know if u guy notice anything...i used 2 cans on it and im going to use a 3rd can to even it out, also its not 100% done...

Sorry if the pics suck, i took them in a hurry but enjoy guys...

Did that fabric coloring make yer headliner crusty? The reason i ask is cuz i wanna dye my rear seat black, but i dont want it to feel crusty or like its painted......

i dont know, i just did it today...so i wont know til its completely done, im doing another can to make it as black as i can...but ive heard that dupli is good, so it should do ok, i think you should just recover ur back seat instead of painting it...might cost more, but it will look better and feel better too...

when someone posted about this a few weeks ago, i dyed my extra rear seat that i had with the duplicolor stuff and it made it crusty. I used two cans just on the back part and it still wasn't even. The stuff that you have to mix up may work a little better tho.

Also, the headlinder is a softer and less rigid fabric so i think it should be fine.

Was that a fabric headliner or was it vinyl? cause i want to get my headliner white but it is cloth so i would have to rewrap it right?

Hey man, I used the same on my dash and it came out flawless. I've been debating doing the headliner in vinyl or using the duplicolor method. So did it come out crusty or not? I"m very good with wrapping things, but if it looks pretty good, it will save me some time.

D Style, did you sand your plastic parts first? If not, did you use an adhesion promoter? I hope the answer to one of those is yes, because otherwise you are probably looking at peeling very quick.

Quiklilcav: no i didn;t want the sanded look...and no to the adhesion promoter, i cleaned the sh*t out of the pieces, but this is a trial and error run, i dont particulary care if something happens to the plastic parts, but i did use a base coat on the black parts and plus Krylon fusion needs no sanding or primer, so hopefully everything will work out...

I just finished my seats with the dupli method. Yeah they felt like sand paper, but all you do is take a bottle of Fabic softner and sparay it on, All better then.

hes not saying sand it smooth man... hes saying use a light grit and scuff it up a little to make the paint adhear better... Paint like krylon fusin is the only paint that "says" it doesnt need prep work but even for that when i did my red interior i atleast sanded. Good luck, hope you dont have any problems.... It may not peal but it will deffinatly scratch.

Actually, one or the other. I did a bunch of interior parts on my car two years ago. I didn't sand a thing. I cleaned the crap out of everything, then hit it with adhesion promoter, waited till that was dry (if I remember, about 15 minutes), then painted. I haven't had any wear or peel off.

However, any plastic I've ever seen painted after just cleaning peels and chips very easy. At least this is a trial run for you. And I agree with the factory texture look rather than smooth. I like it better myself.
