Alright i didnt like how the gauges looked before same with probably 100% of you lol. I cant afford the cost of aftermarket gauges at the time or in the near future, so i wanted to keep the factory gauges but work with them and try to make them look better than they did and have it be a little custom. Also replacing all your gauges its kind of hard to sell the car without having a mileage/check engine light ect.
This is just in its ruff stage it was taken like a 1/2hr ago its about done now.

Think of something else and I do respect the work.

man im tryin or did try, i cant come up with any ideas lol
Yo, You can tap into the wires from the stock gauges and keep the old ones behind the aftermarkets ones. I think you should put some digital guages kinda like what DoubleZed did. I like everything else tho, I just know you can do better work than this.

Take the clear plastic off of the factory gauges, then extend the holes so that they reach around the actual gauges and then make some clear plastic thing to go over it but recessed into the hole. I think if you read what I just wrote like 5 times you may be able to understand it LOL. I know it is probobly confusing. Can't really explain the idea.
Kinda late now, but center gauges would be good
Yall can't do it with your LCD set-up tho
Here's a pic of the progress I made before it got too cold out...
I messed up the angles of the pics too, but eh well...
Maybe if it's still kinda warm out when I get home from work (was real nice out at lunch time) I'll add another layer or two of F/G. I kept the dash at home when I put the car "in" storage at my grandparents house (it's actually outside tho haha)
IMO, you should just leave the gauges stock looking if ya can't afford aftermarket. Hit up the Classifieds tho, and E-Bay too. Find yourself some real good deals that way...
Not feeling it. Looks amaturish. You can do better work. Just need a better design. This has too much bulk to it. Need something cleaner looking.
i orignialy wanted to put the gauges in the center but did not really wanna cut and splice all the wires and extend them to put them in the middle. i have been up so many late nights layin in bed just trying to think of ideas for the gauges i have no idea what to do. I thought of just going back to stock, but i think whats their now looks better than stock.
your circles dont look like circles at all.
i'm baaaaack!!
the reason they look like circles is because itheirs a curve right their its hard to explain it looks a lot better in person!

What's the deal with the MGD in the glove box?
I used MGD boxes (cut into flat sheets) under the fiberglass. My first attempt failed b/c I did not support the f/g with cardboard. This one still needs works (only has one layer of F/G) but it's tons better than the first one. There is a layer of Saran Wrap or Cling Wrap or something between the cardboard and F/G too, so once I get another layer or two of F/G done, I can take the cardboard off and build more layers on the inside so I don't make it too big.
Pic from one layer of FG before painting it black
Take the plastic off the gauges then cut some pvc pipe to extend all the way to the gauge face. Then add plexiglass at the very front of the dash. stick and led facing the gauges and that might look good if you can picture what I am
.

That is what I was trying to say. Extend the circles to the gauges. Not huvering over them like that.
if you cant afford different gauges right now atleast get reverse glo gagues and just do the overlay, it would look so much better. also they make a drill bit that has a circular cutter on it so you can cut a perfect circle out of anything. pick one of those up because it looks terrible right now
I'd go shaved and mount the gaugaes on the A pilllar in pods using digital. But thats just me
the circles are perfect circles, its just the pictures because the hole thing is angled hard to explain!
^^^^its not bolted down and just kinda hangin there so it looks of center
i kinda like the idea on this show cobalt...
^^^ holy big tv in car!!
looks good with the gauges in the cobalts dash.
i'm baaaaack!!
well you could put in some new needle guages and not hook them up...they would be dummy guages, you can fill the holes that way...plus i dont think ur gonna driving that thing around, bc with all the glass its gonna make the car a lil heavy...and u dont wanna wreck it, kinda like what happened to it before u bought it
Don't the caddys come with a digital screen now, that projects on to the windshield? I think it would be cool to have one, and just shave the rest of the dash. However thats talking $$
oh my god......
i really dont like that, at all
the one idea i did like is the PVC one with the LEDs, if done right that would be cool
but that is just horrible... sorry
