mixing pepboys and rims...

well simple story....took my car to get inspected at pepboys. they thought that the breaks were grabbing so they offered me a free inspection for them. I agreed. they took the wheels off saw that the rear brakes were low and told me and showed me.

then comes where they screwed up.

they put the wheels back on but they put them on so hard that they cracked my locks and no body could take them off even with the gorilla wrench thing. the locks opened up and when done they could not be taken off so they had to be welded this is just an example pic of how all the wheels look after being scorched (this is the worst one)

Thats insane! Thats an example of pl at pep boys not knowing what they were doing and whoever the welder was didnt know what he was doing either by the looks of it. That sucks man.

well I did take it back and talked to the manager he became condecending and told me "my computer and your receipt don't show my mechanics touching your rims. since the job was free we don't document those jobs." on top of that he told me "our record only show year make model vin and mileage but we didn't touch it take it to court, i have been in the game to long to be played by some punk kid." I am going to see what I can do but at this point in time it looks unlikely that I can do anything about it.

i would have never left pep boys without settling it. but then again i would never take my car to pepboys. id raise hell if they destroyed my stuff. find the guy who did it before you talk to the manager again. see if he'll fess up

You have to always carry a disposable camera in your car at all time. If something happens just take it out and take pictures. Simple as good.
But I would get a lawyer if I were you. Tell the laywer to give them a call and let them know your serious and that if it takes going to court for you will go that far. Having a Pepboys Sucks decal on your car might not be a bad idea either.

i was in a bind once and had to get a tire changed... i went to pep boys they not only dropped my rim on its face on the concrete but also scratched the outside of the whole wheel putting the tire on ..i got the manager ...he apologized a million times told me to order the wheel bring him the reciept and they would pay for it. so out of the deal i got a new rim and the tire change for free...did you not get the manager right when this @!#$ happened ??? i was bout to slit a throat when the @!#$ happened to me

So Pep Boys did the welding? Is that right? Did they ask your permission?

no they put the rim back on...later that week I needed to take the wheels off so I could paint my drums like I had planned. when I tried they were too hard for me to do so I took it to discount tire company and had themn loosen the locks.but they couldn't instead

and couldn't get them off so I went and told the manager. and he told me what stated above.now I got them off but i got three fried rims.(this is one of the rims that got fried the least two are really bad one is untouched)

I went to a local Tires Plus to have my tires rotated and balanced along with an oil change. Normally i'd do it myself but I don't have a place to do it anymore (apartment complex hates that sort of thing). After doing the job they came back to me and said that the key (I have Spline Drive lugs, so the key goes over the lugnut) was stripped out on the inside due to what must've been a lot of use. They must have forgotten the fact that I had purchased it from them 2 months before and they had only been used once to put the wheels on. They said that in order to get the lugs off they'd have to crack them which would damage my wheels. Ironically enough, whoever did the work really messed up the balancing of the wheels so I had to get them fixed soon. I don't think it was a coincidence.

All in all, I took it to a Firestone dealership down the street, they ordered a new key and fixed it with no problems. Just give them hell and see what you can do about it.

I took my car to sears a while back to have my tires put on my rims and have them mounted..... yea when I tried to get my lugnuts off so I could paint my drums they wouldnt budge.....they had them on there so tight I stripped the lugs with a breaker bar trying to get them off. I had to get one of those tool thingies that grab the outside of the lug and rip it off. I was going buck nuts after them. After me bi$%^ing at them and them saying it wasnt there fault, they finally agreed to buy me a new set of lugs out of the deal.

my girl has 19s and the lugs they send here were as soft as aluminum and would not come off her studs, we had them drilled off with NO damage at all to the rims. WTF would you weld?

thats what i was thinking...maybe they just took a torch to it to contract the metal so that the lugs could come off easier.

HOLY F**K! WHAT THE F**K. I would do everything in my power to make them pay for that if that was my car, because that is their fault. If they dispute it, like said above, get a lawyer. It sucks, but you got to do what you got to do.

No.
They most likely weld a bolt to the end and then were able to use a socket to break it loose.
That's what a shop (not a @!#$ty chain store) had to do with one of my lugs last year when I split one just like you did. They were actually carefull though and I just have a small scratch near the area...didn't really have a choice, it could of been alot worse.

Everytime I have ever gone to a shop for any kind of work I straight forward tell them I want to watch cause I have been screwed over b4 (never have but). When I had my tires put on at discount tire (grat place and people) I stood right next to them the whole time and had a smoke. When I had a piece welded on my exhaust I stood right there next to them and had a smoke. If something were to ever happen to my shlt right then and there I'd say stop and go get the manager. Might be rude but I have never been out any $$ for some one fu(king up my shlt.
