My new console... Straight outta a 1997-99 Sunfire.

(have to still get the 4door Sunfire power window switch... but it'll do just fine for now... I also replaced the plastic around the gauge/hvac/raido since mine had a nasty crack in the middle and a few broken clips.)

if you want to do it right, you'll need to get the shifter too. I didn't thinking it would line up like the good ole' cavalier, and it didn't. So there are no bolts holding the console in.
HOWEVER! it is a tight fit and don't slide anywhere once you get it in place.
Also, it can be a pain in the finger (i took a good 2 layers of skin off my index finger). Watch out for the edges when the shifter/ebrake cover is off... That mug is sharp! lol. I bled for about 25 minutes pretty baddly. But that being said... I bled on it, so it'll last forever

and the console..i like my console...
i thought i liked the old cav console... but this is much more driver friendly. Arm rest puts my hand right on the shifter, cup holders out away from the CDplayer, that tray is perfect for smokes, its just so great. Oh and the fact its one solid color
I planned on doing the front door inserts in Black Vinyl, but I ran out, and haven't gone out to get some. The door inserts are the only ones i have left to change. The headlinner, rear door inserts, and rear deck are all in black vinyl.
IDK though, I may go to black carpets as well.

I have swapped to a Sunfire center console too. You have to remove the Cavalier console bracket from underneath the shifter and replace it with the sunfire one. ( part # 22583152 ). Then you can bolt the console to the Sunfire bracket. I plan on moving my HVAC controls down to the console one day

call me crazy but i did the 00+ cavalier console in my 96 and having 2 cup holders is great now
and in the 00+ the holders sit lower as well so they dont get in the way of the stereo
also what is that on your dash?? i was just looking at it wondering
I'd love to do this i've always like the sunfire console better. but id have to see it done on a manual before i could decide!

I was going to go to the 2000-05 console, but there wern't any worth it at the yard. So I brought home the Sunfire one, and am VERY glad I did. Its a tight fit under the dash, and I can't get my ashtray all the way out, but oh well.
And what you see on my dash is my Radar Dector... If you look up towards the top of it where the Defrost vent is, you can see my video camera mount.
And i'll have pics here in a few, but I just installed my Scan tool.net scanner, on the side of the console. I may move it, but Im not sure. I think I like it where its at.

but either way the new center does look 100x better then the stock pos that came in our cars
now I'm thinkin' about swapping in a Sunfire center console into my Z. I like that. I have a manual though.

I beleave theres a Manual version of this, but I am not sure. You could always dremel out the area for the shifter....
oh, and I hadn't put my Satalite reciever in when I took the picture.
I guess i'll go take pics once Im done with dinner of how it looks now with Scantool and Sirius.

should just as long as you get that bracket to bolt it down.
But mine isn't mounted, its just laying in there, and very tightly squeezed.
Also, I can't open my ashtray all the way, but i can live with that. I have power windows, so i'll just roll the window down some to smoke in the cold.
