Ok guys and gals I've done my search'n but couldn't find my answer. From what I found let me answer a few questions before i get any possible flame jobs from random readers:
I do have a stock style hood but in carbon fiber, so I'm not "ricing" it.
I don't care if anyone says they are useless, my latch on my stock hood gave out on Interstate 27 and there it went back up to my windshield and on top of my roof (if anyone wants the pics to post or whatever just e-mail me). And yeah, the insurance company paid me off to walk the other way (total).
And i am an old generation j-body user, so i did search before hand.
I'm think'n of getting locking pins, the ones with the key. I work in Down Town Lansing, and passer byers have bean known not to so friendly with cars. So i don't need to get in my car with no battery or someone think'n it's funny to take other nameless objects out from the engine bay.
I'm just wondering how the locking pins look. If they are flush like regular hood pins, or if they are all balky looking. If they are, I'll just get regular ones and use my old latch (although I don't trust the fiberglass mounting bracket for the hood striker. My car is at the body shop right now, and I would like to get a look at what those locking pins look like so I can give him the final word on what to go with. I saw summit and Jegs has the locking pins with key.
Thanks in advance.
I'm look'n for pics of them installed.
i dont have mine installed but they only stick up 1/4" or so. if u had pin the pins would sit just as high if not higher.. I know Eazy has his installed on a c/f hood so he might post pics.. i tried finding the pics he posted of them but i could find em..
Now do you use your stock latch too, or just the pins?
you are suppose to use your latch w/ pins. hood pins are only an added precaution
i use stock latch as well
i used to have the sparco pins on my old hood also. used stock latch then also
RIP Saint ........ JBO
Eazy, I have the same pins and I am having a helluva time getting them flush. You have the exactly how I want them, can you post pics of how you mounted em and/or instructions?
I would really appreciate it.
Thats my old hood, I installed the pins, unfortunatly I don't have the hood anymore obviously lol so I don't have any pics
not really sure how hood pins work, do you have to drill those holes yourself on the hood?
I just ordered those exact pins, how hard are they to install? I'm really scared to drill holes in my nice cf hood
Reality is an illusion caused by lack of drugs
Yeah, you have to drill into the hood. That's why I didn't do it myself, had someone who has done it before do it. There was just something about drilling into a $700 hood that made me queezy.
I ended up going with some aluminum ones, and am having them put on tonight. Though they aren't locking pins, i'll have the striker put in for reasons of security. I got the sliding key style, so I hope it turns out alright. Thanks for everyones help, and when its all said and done, i'll post some pics of my car destroyed and the now photos. Agains, I've bean a member for a few years, and have always apreciated the advice and input from other members.
p.s. I did do my search ya joke...er um jokr. thanks for the link back to the page i had started in the first place.
