painted door handles, shaved spoiler & '03+ dash
Saturday, June 24, 2006 8:25 AM
As a "birthday" gift to the GT (it was built in June of 2002) I finally got rid of the spoiler, got the door handles painted and managed to get my hands on an '03+ dash pad for $25 thanks to blown air bags.

I have decided to leave the mirrors and door pillars black because I don't want to overdo the silver and I think the areas around the windows look better all black anyway (the windshield wiper arms and wiper blade housings are getting re-painted black tomorrow). The exterior of the car is done, aside from an 8" antenna (arriving next week), lowering (Tokico D-Specs and Tein 1.1" springs) and wheels (18" silver MR7s).

The interior of the car is also pretty much complete except for getting some custom billet rings made to go around the air vents and getting all the fabric re-wrapped in leather. It took me a little over a year to get my hands on an '03+ dash pad. I couldn't believe it when I saw it and the fact that the air bags were blown made it even better (and cheaper). Since I got rid of the spoiler and henceforth, the third brake light, I chose to keep with the stock look and move the third brake light inside to the rear deck to avoid trouble with the cops. I lucked out and found a Sunfire that had a factory spoiler-less trunk lid.

Please ignore the steering wheel cover and floor mats. I use them for daily driving to protect the steering wheel and carpet .

The next thing on my to-do list is finishing the exhaust. Once the exhaust is done, the suspension will get done. Last but not least will be wheels and tires.

I will get more and better pictures up very soon. These were taken quickly in my driveway this morning to show a couple friends. I figured why not post them here and get some feedback from my peers.

Please feel free to check out my Car Domain page and don't forget to vote .

I always love seeing pics of your car.. I can't wait to see it lowered with rims. I still think window tint is a good idea.

Awww... that's so sweet . I'd love to see some pictures of your car. It looks so good in your sig. I can't wait to see my car lowered with wheels either . I am going back and forth on tint. Part of me wants to get at least the rear and rear quarter windows tinted and part of me doesn't. Time will tell I guess.

Thanks a lot, now I want air ride ! The 'fire looks amazing. I am definitely getting MR7s. Are yours chrome or silver and what size are they? I love the fact that you don't have a body kit. I hope you're not planning on putting one on either...

I don't see why not?

Thanks a lot, but I AM A GIRL DAMN IT . I'll be keeping my rear deck just the way it is as I won't be adding a fancy stereo system with a ton of speakers.

Awww... thanks ! Cleanliness is what I strive for. When I went around to local body shops to get quotes, the owner of the first shop I went to just could not get over the fact that the car is four years old. If you keep up on the cleaning it makes it a lot easier. I'm sure your car isn't as dirty as you think .

97cavie24ls wrote:paint the mirrors , and get the eibach prokit

The mirrors are staying black and I am getting the Tein High.Tech 1.1" springs because I was lowered 1.5" on Goldlines before and I scraped too much.

I am still going back and forth on tinting the windows. Part of me wants to do the rear quarter windows and the rear window 20% and leave the front windows alone. The other part of me wants to leave all the windows un-tinted to avoid any sort of possible trouble with the local law enforcement. Time will tell I guess. If I do get the windows tinted, it won't be for a while as I need to get the exhaust quieted down and finished and then get it lowered.

Thanks a lot ! I am so anxious to at least get it lowered, I'm not as worried about the wheels, but it definitely won't look really good until it's lowered. I absolutely love the '03+ dash. It's so sporty looking. It really adds a lot to the interior.

Yeah everytime I saw pics of a fire with air ride on it, it made me want to finish mine even faster. My MR7's are silver and they're 17's. They look alot bigger when tucked. I don't plan on putting a body kit on here anymore, after seeing how low it sits already, I don't want to mess anything up. Plus, it doesnt look bad without a kit. Silver Mr7's would look mint on your car.. *hint hint*..

Yeah, I would love to have air ride, but for me it wouldn't really be worth it because I don't go to that many shows or anything. It would definitely be cool to have, but I think I'll be better off lowering it with springs.

I'm glad to hear you're not putting a body kit on it. I love the way it looks now. I feel the same way about body kits. I wouldn't want to spend all that money on the kit itself and paint and then hit a bump or something and ruin it all. That's why I'm staying stock as well.

I have always loved MR7s. For a while I was looking at some 5 spoke wheels, but after finding out they wouldn't fit properly I decided I would just stick with some 18" silver MR7s.

I'm glad u ditched the spoiler.. Js just look hot without em.. esp sunfires. but as much as MR7s get old, i think in 18" they will really set off ur fire. I would like to see u lower it more tho like on sprints or sportlines but i read u scrapped with goldlines so that sucks.. hell with my bomex front i havent scrapped anything yet.. not lowered but dont have much clearance.. bout 6".. but i guess roads matter, when i move to my new house its like a 5" curb i gotta drive over so i think ill have problems when i slam it.. so thats why i got a new body kit sitting in the shed

btw, for Tint.. i would tint all windows.. ur windows would match and flow alot better with leaving ur mirrors and pillars black.. and would make it even cleaner

That's exactly what I'm going for. I took it to a local cruise night a couple weeks ago and this younger couple came over to look at it and didn't even realize it was a Sunfire until they saw the indentation in the rear bumper . Now that's an accomplishment .

I am so happy to finally be rid of that damn spoiler. I hated that thing from the minute I saw the car on the lot.

I have always loved MR7s and I think they look so good in 18s. I would like to lower it more than 1.1," but with 18s I figure it will look lower because the bigger wheels will fill up the wheel wells more. When I had the Goldlines I had to be really careful where I drove because I would scrape pretty easily which is why I want to keep it a little higher this time around. I don't want to have to worry quite as much about whether or not I can make it in someone's driveway, etc.

As far as tint goes, I would like to get all five windows tinted 20%, but I am worried about having trouble with the local cops. I have had enough trouble with them over stupid $hit like no front license plate, "loud" exhaust and license plate lights that aren't bright enough. The last thing I want to do is pay $100-$200 to get the windows tinted and then have the cops be pulling me over all the time and giving me tickets and then eventually having to take the tint off. Basically I am still undecided on the whole tint thing. I know it would look really good to have the whole top part of the car black, but to me it's not worth getting pulled over all the time so we'll see what I end up doing.

For some reason most sunfire owners seem to like to get "It doesn't look like a sunfire" comments lol. I know I do. I like the changes, drop n rims will be killer, I want an 03 dash damn you lol.
