well first had to do some cleaning up for my photoshoot with gauge magazine.com, I had allot of wires from various stuff all near the battery that didnt look good and i didnt want to spend a ton of time on the engine bay since an eco is going into it in the fall so i just took some plexi, cut it out to fit, painted the backside of it black and redid my power and ground wires to clean it all up. didnt turn out to bad for a10$ quick fix (not including the wireing or connectors)
test fitting the plexi before i peeled of the plastic on it.
now the kickpods. this is the last thing i needed to do to get the system up and running. i spend a few hours in the car this week playing with the angle of the speaker to get it as close to where it needed to be as possible. and this was no easy task being in the garage in an enclosed car when its 90 outside lol.
first laid down a fiberglass bottom and attached it directly to the door sill piece. the holes are for wiring and to allow the speaker to be mounted as close as possible (this is for midrange so there is no need for it to be sealed)
this is my baffle for the speakers, i took heavy construction board (stuff they use to do borders on pictures) and gave myself an edge around the speaker this will recess the speakers and give me room for a grill or a piece of plexi, (still havnt decided yet)
fitting the speaker baffle to the kick. checking how it all fits in.
one of the reasons i like mb quart is they are designed for off axis listening wich means i dont have to point them back at the listener wich means they will take up allot less space on the floor
trimmed up the fiberglass back so it will match up nicely.
i took the baffles and fiberglassed the ring around the edge, i wasnt sure it woule hold up when i wrapped it so this was more as a saftey net for me.
i then hot glued the baffle to the fiberglass piece and wrapped it in my super sweet blue flowery fleece material.
then another test fit to make sure i was good.
i threw on the resin and once it hardened i added a layer of rage gold filler. one thing i can't stress enough is getting a good stretch over the piece your working with and with using fleece you will get a strong material. do it right and you can move right to filler. i didnt have to sand the fiberglass at all. fiberglass takes 10x as long to sand as filler does so take the time to wrap it right.
after i sanded the filler down i took a dremel and carefully cut out my hole and cleaned them up.
then it was back in for another test fit and proper curing. fiberglass can warp and shrink up to around 24 hours after it dries so once i get it to this stage i put it back in the car to make sure it fits, and i'll leave it there overnight so it hopefully wont warp out of shape.
thin profile for a kickpod. man i love mb quart.
only thing left is to wrap them. originally was going to go with black fleece, but the more i think about it i think i'm going to just wrap it in black speaker box carpet. this way it matches the floor and will blend in more. i'll post some finished pices problaby next week after the slamology show along with some more engine pics of the things i changed up there.

Looks good... I really like the plexi glass idea you had!!!
2004 Turbo cavalier 11PSI and blown!
lookin good man. The cover looks real good, especially for a quick fix.
Kick panels are sweet. I think you should have kept that flower pattern though lol.

nice jason. def good work. btw any weekend next month i'm open to meet up whenever u want so just lemme know. they close around 2 i think so depending on what ur wanting to get might not be to bad of a idea to get there around 10-11
I was like... WTF?! LOL.... Looks great.
Can't wait to see them finished! Great Job!
SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
With the battery cover, is it just held on by the terminal clamps? That looks really tight. Lovin the kick panels too. Nice work.
Soo clean. I wonder if the speaker pod would get in the way if you had a manual
they will be done soon as i can find some damn carpet to cover them with lol
they should work fine with a manual. ive seen people with manuels use the q-logic ones and they stick out allot more then mine do.\
as far as the battery cover it is just held on by the battery connectors. i drilled holes in the plexi to go right over the positive and negative, then when the connectors are attached theres no where for it to go. and it fits tight against the strut body part so it doesnt rattle or move around.

Looks really nice. I've been thinking about doing something similar with some component speakers, but I already have 2 sets of coaxials up front.
I was gonna say keep the flower pattern, but someone beat me to it.
Keep it up!
are you gonna carpet the whole part? i wanna see it when your done
Looks good J.. Love it man...

i better, i was amased i couldnt find simple black speaker box carpet anywhere that was non-backed so i had to overnight parts from japan. i mean order some, its supposed to be here thursday so looks like thursday night i'll be wrapping the kicks and wiring up the speakers and friday night will be cleaning the cars.
jason philz-e i'd suggest selling both sets of coaxials and getting one qualty set of componet speakers and doign kicks, youlle get a much nicer sound.

The one thing I have against that is that I custom-made dual speaker pods for my door panels. I thought about selling the 6.5" coaxials and getting the Type RF comps, but they wouldn't match my 5.25" coaxials. I don't have the money to do that at the moment anyways.
Or I guess I could buy the 6.5" and 5.25" Power series components so they'd match, but I think the Type RF's are better. And they don't make Type RF 5.25" speakers, coaxial or component. gawd
