im assuming those bars are to slide the seat back and forth
they seem to stick out pretty far

Yeah, themarin8r, those black u-shaped bars in the front of the seats are for sliding. Amazingly they are not ever noticed when sitting in the car, I thought they would be a problem too. They are so low to floorboard that they don't get in the way.

Well I got some more done today. The block is pretty close to being finished. Tomorrow I will button it up and start pulling the old motor. I'll keep taking pics as I go.

It feels pretty good to be getting this done.

Well I didn't get as much done as I hoped for today, due to my fathers lawn tractor having wiring issues. Took me about 4 hrs to fix that first. But tomorrow hopefully everything will go as planned. Here are some more pics.

So far, so good. Only had some minor things that needed tweaked.

Well I got a lot done today. I forgot the camera at shop so we will have a lot of pics coming tomorrow evening. The bottom end is finished and ready for the head, which is on the current motor, all I need is my head studs which I am picking up tomorrow morning.
I got all the fluids drained, rad pulled, axles pulled and some various other things. I glass beaded and cleaned the new valve cover which took a considerable amount of time and painted it cast aluminum. I finished up tiging my new dipstick and crankcase vent assembly and painted it cast iron.
I should have the engine out and start the reassembly process tomorrow.

Stevefire- I wondered when somebody would start noticing some of the more intricate things I have done. I don't know if you have compared the stock rods to a small block, but they are almost identical. They are .109 longer and have .101 smaller wrist pin bore. The metallurgy is identical, powder forged steel. They take the same bearings. If you have ever worked on small blocks before you would know that when reworked properly they can withstand alot of power and rpm. These rods they way I have done them, all the bells and whistles, should be good for a little over 7,500 rpm (I will shut it down at 6,500 for longevity) and about 300 hp at the wheels. Which will be plenty for a fun street motor.

Did you notice anything else I have done?
