Small trip to KY (lots of pics)
Sunday, February 25, 2007 8:45 AM
Well I decided to go on a small roadtrip to KY this weekend. I purchased a hood from Samantha, It was an interesting trip for sure. I took Friday off work to prep the car since it's been put away for winter. Afterwards left for Ypsilanti to pickup my co-pilot and see the Taking Back Sunday concert at EMU. Left the concert early to be back to her Appt by 11 for some sleep. Awoke at 1 A.M to remove the hood from my car and leave.

With that being said... here's some pics from the trip:

Washed the cavy before leaving...

The sun started to rise just as we entered Kentucky, now only a few hours to go!

Samanth's bridge into her driveway

Small creek under that bridge

Her ridiculous driveway which I did not attempt to drive up...

Here are where the problems started. We arrived at the destination at about 10 A.M. Saturday morning. Put the hood on the car and it woudln't
latch. There is a closeout panel on the front of the hood that the stock hood has more clearance, well my supercharger would not allow the hood to shut. There are a few pictures of the hood unlatched, then the process of trying to get the latch to work. Samanth was nice enough to drive us around acquire a hacksaw which I cut the throttle body adapter plate. It was touching the underside of the hood. Then it still wouln't latch. So we went in seach of longer hood latch bolts with washers to lower the striker on the hood so it could latch. After a few different stops and buying some lunch it was finally latched and we left around 2:30 PM s several hours later than planned.

Woot finally latched pics!

Some pics of Ohio since we passed through there in the dark on the way to KY:

All in all a successful trip. We actually planned on staying in Ypsi Saturday night/Sunday morning. However with the news of the storm we decided to stop in Ypsi to acquire our things and head back to Ortonville. Finally arrived home around 11:30 PM

Big thanks to Pam for going with me and to Samantha for helping out when the hood woudln't latch dispite her not felling her best at the time.

A few notes from the trip: Ohio cops like to follow Michigan cars without hoods. 06 LS2 GTO's are faster than my S/C cavy (for now ) The hood didn't add enough HP. Lastly saying Kentucky is rural would be an extreme understatement.

Thanks for looking.... 24 hours of being awake, nearly 18 of them were driving Fun Fun!

something comes to mind... it sounds like it was a very long trip (mi to ky) why not just pay for shipping?

as for the hood not latching, we had to hack saw the actual latch (the triangular looking piece that latches into the hood latch) a litle bit because my vis hood didnt have that hole in the hood for the triangular piece to go up into. so i feel ur pain with the latch not working properly etc.

sucks u had to cut ur nice aluminum adaptor

T2 is right, that is Pam she tried to hide when the camera came out and I'm proud to still be on his hero list.

James that is ironic, where did you end up going to get yours?

Zyaa, I had to do the same thing with the stricker on the hood for my sunfire long ago. I was surprised this hood had the hole for the striker alignment tab. As for taking the trip vs shipping. Samantha didn't want to ship the hood and road trips are fun anyways

i think somebody may have cut that hole out... to me it doesnt look like a factory thing for that hood, just looks like it was cut out.

i honestly think the reason my VIS hood didnt have the hole for the "striker" was for strength so the catch latch bolts dont rip out due to the wind. i didnt mind having to modify the "striker" tab (thanks for clearing up the definition for me ) i think it worked great, and i just moved the entire latch assembly down to the lowest point i could, that way i didnt have to use washers to have the catch latch hang down farther. my hood also didnt have the tiny hole cut out of it for that tab on the catch latch, i had to cut that off as well for it to work.

I bought mine from Ben (Tabasco Racing) in Feb 04 and Drove to West Virginia to get it.

It looks like whoever sanded it sanded ALL the Gel coating (white stuff) off the Fiberglass. Wonder why?

Z yaaa - M y dad lives in Lexington KY, It is a 6hour drive for me to get there in my Cav. It takes 1 COMPLETE FULL TANK to get there and 1 to get back. $60 in gas and 12 hours or so of driving it ALOT cheaper than shipping a hood Via Freight Truck. Plus the ROADTRIPS are AWESOME!

z yaaaa: I'm not sure if it was cut from Class Glass or by the prior owner. I believe the mold was made without a hole and probably cut afterwards based upon it not being a perfect square. I assume there needs to be a hole there for the secondary latch/safety catch. Some people use hood pins so you're probably right, cut afterwards.

Aaron, I had no idea you were from KY, which part?

James, Yeah it sounds like we did similar trips... the pics from your old post don't seem to load though.
