well i've been searching for a 2.4 motor for my sedan to drop in it. Well about a week ago i got a call from a friend of mine who said his sisters husband was selling his car for cheap. So i called and went and look at it, and ended up dropping $500 bucks on the table and ran off with it!! what a steal! I drove it to my girlfriends house, but thats about all it would do. The motor has a bad click in it...sounds like a valve slapping off the piston...but for $500 i couldnt pass it up. its a 98, 5 speed, 141,xxx miles, clean interior, and a good body for the year and the mileage. I started tearing into it, and tomorrow the cam towers and head should be coming off. Im figuring it wont be a while until i get the motor back in and running, but does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do performance wise or just things i should do while its all out? It's all coming out and getting rebuilt. Anyways, enough talk...onto the pics.
Well since its coming out to get rebuilt I bet you already know what needs to be done.
New Gaskets, seals, clean parts really good, new spark plugs, since its out, put some secret cams in and any other internal performance parts you got planned for it.

Nice little pick up. I would say for sure if you are into the engine put the Secret Cams in for sure. I even have a extra set or two of them if you want them. I would even let them go for 125.00 plus shipping if you get them this week.

Probably a spun bearing, I would just call an auto yard, get a used motor, pull it apart, new bearings and rings, fresh hone job, and you will have yourself a nice running machine. If you feel capable, do the 2.3 oil pump swap and secret cams, thing will go pretty good for what you will have into it.

yup an look at the driver fender no paint on the inside part of it...so looks like a driver side hit....
yea its a salvage title car. the guy showed me a pic of when he bought it, he replaced the fender and the lights on the drivers side and had the bumper rapainted cause the paint spider-webbed fron getting dented. the bumper support prob was replaced since there's no crush guard stuff for the bumper and the relays are electrical taped to them. oh well, cant beat it for $500 bucks tho, i can clean some of that mess up.
nice find, I got my 2001 4 door with the 2.4 w/ secret cams, exhaust, rims, intake, header, toyo tails all for 1000.00 the engine runs great and has been my daily driver since Jan and it hasn't given me a problem. I have also came across a car on Craigslist thats a 98 or 99 grand am with the 2.4, its been hit in the front but runs smooth, guy wants 250. for whole car.
motor is getting pulled today and should be on the stand ready to start tearing into. i decided what i wanted to do with this motor, and ill let you all in on the plans after a while. Im sure everyone will love it too.

Doesn't bother me. I've sold mine for hmm 150+ each time with no problem. I have I think 2 full sets not counting the ones in the cars. I keep them around till someone doesn't have any, and wants them since I have them pulled and in the garage.
